Re: Gavin Harrison here!

Hello Gavin!

I'm really a guitarist, but I dabble here and there with percussion. I'd just like to say thanks for all the amazing music. I tend to gravitate toward grooves in 7, 9, 11 and anything...

Re: Atlanta Drummers?

I do not. Although, I know of a place or two to play. Can't leave gear there, but if you don't mind setting up/breaking down then it'll work. I'm more interested in creating original material than...

Re: Atlanta Drummers?

I'm basically in the Buckhead/Midtown area.

So far, still can't find a drummer besides people who say they'd like to jam, but never folllow through.

Musicians are flakey.

Orange County Avalon Kit

I was just wondering if anybody knows anything about this kit? It's a 6 piece maple kit priced at $1,000 from guitar center.

I played one in the store and I liked it, but I'd probably put...

Re: What are the essentials for drummers?

I think some of the requirements stated are simply abstractions of more fundamental ones.

For example:

If a drummer has a good groove then, by definition, he must have a good sense of time as...

Re: Help with "The Dreaming Tree," by The Dave Matthews Band

Ah, it's working now. I'm in Japan and was using a computer in the office. It works on my US computer at home.

Re: Help with "The Dreaming Tree," by The Dave Matthews Band

No, no, no. You've been very helpful. Thanks!

I'll check out the live version you linked when I get home from work.

Really, all I need to get down is the basic groove of the song and then I...

Re: Help with "The Dreaming Tree," by The Dave Matthews Band

Thanks, that helps!

I'm more of an auditory player actually. I have some experience in African drumming and other non-western styles where the visualization of the music and the mentality is...

Re: Help with "The Dreaming Tree," by The Dave Matthews Band

This is nowhere near what is actually being played. But, it's got a similar feel to give any of you an idea.

Tempo: about 150

7/4

Help with "The Dreaming Tree," by The Dave Matthews Band

I seam to be drawn to beats that are in 7 and this song has a killer groove. I was wondering if anybody had a tab for the main groove of the song? I know it's in 7 and the foundation of the beat...

Re: IF you could get your guitarist to listen to you....what would you tell them?

There is also a semantic difference between a space and a void. Space implies nothingness while a void implies a space which needs to be filled. ;)

In terms of drumming and playing with other...

Re: How Do You Percieve the Music?

Yeah, I thought of that: West African and other non-western styles of music like Indian (tabla), and Japanese (Taiko) don't really focus on the music in terms of mathematical phrasing.

I guess my...

How Do You Percieve the Music?

I'm primarily a guitarist, but I've always like drumming and I've dabbled a bit here and there. I've studied West African Drumming, been in a found-object percussion group (ala Stomp or Blue Man...

Re: IF you could get your guitarist to listen to you....what would you tell them?

I am both a guitarist and a drummer (guitarist first, though).

I'd say that before anybody even starts to play, get everything set up, soundwise, so everybody can hear each other and nothing is...

Fun Drum Pattern

From around the seven minute mark in "Rosetta Stoned," by Tool (doesn't include the hand pattern, but it's good for practice and building other things off of).

Have fun

Re: Danny Carey

Right now, It may be the Paiste snare made by Jeff Ocheltree.

But, at one point he used a 16X6.5" Brady snare made out of Bulloak wood.

He might also have used a Sonor snare to match his Sonor...
