Re: How do I tell my friend that his expensive custom handmade snare is shit?

Well it seems like his mind is made up and apparently nothing you can say will change it.

I would record a take and attach the file to an email, asking him if that sound is to his taste because...

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

This is an incredible kit.

Sizes are great as they can be tensionned med-low with clear double-plys to sound much "larger" than they are, or get a great tone at every possible tuning with coated...

Re: Thinking about double bass...

I will humbly suggest one could instead practice alternating between bd and ft, Mike Johnston style.

KKRR while maintining a steady groove on hats and snare with the left and then anything having...

Re: Best Drum Album of 2018

I'm with you on this one.

The near total absence of ladies at drummer-drummers performances may explain why I tend to classify them in the mental masturbation department...

My vote goes to...

Re: Gretsch Broadkaster vs USA Custom

Those are tensionned way too low for my taste, which makes the toms and kick sound boxy in that video, great drummer though.

I think the Broadkasters shine when tuned medium-high to high (high in...

Re: The ubiquitous LM400

Do you think that may be the result of less and less kids taking up the instrument ?

I seem to be getting more calls from band leaders complaining they can't find a decent drummer than ever...

Re: The jazz ride pattern

A good way to learn is using a grid to use over the jazz pattern (spang a lang, 2&4 on hh and feathering a 4 on the floor). This Art of bop approach worked for me, and I strongly recommend it. ...

Re: Jazz drummers: How do you work on soloing?

That Guiliana book with the DROP curricular is very i spiring and helped me unearth some of my own creativity, as I felt I was in a rut.

This thread recently took a weird tangent but I view it as...

^^^this, plus more wires (or surface might be a more appropriate term) to worry about when packing and setup.

Re: How do you know when to crash?

I just watched a bunch of videos from Vinnie and his take on it is "Always". And it is always tasteful! What a drummer.

I humbly sport 2 crashable rides and an extra dry china out of sight on my...

Re: I wonder if Neil Peart will ever play again?

I am with you on this, I meant playing at home, light studio work, whatever makes him happy. Just not hanging the sticks for good.

Re: Jazz Fusion fans - Help with finding a band

Mammal Hands !

And it is not a clarinet but a straight sax.

I love their Quiet Fire album, so relaxing.

Thanks for your help, sorry for the annoyance.

Re: Jazz Fusion fans - Help with finding a band

I did, been trying since yesterday. It's like they disappeared ! I even tried intersecting with canopus, tabla, modern fusion, etc. I will get it though, they seemed well-known at the time with...

Jazz Fusion fans - Help with finding a band

Hi guys !

A band caught my attention last year on the spotify State of Jazz playlist (does not seem to be there anymore).

It is a trio, keys - alto clarinet I think - drums

The drummer is a...

Re: I wonder if Neil Peart will ever play again?

I have so much respect for those who try to the end like Phil and Alan. Not a great sight for the fans obviously but who cares About appearances and "saving face"? To me it shows personal...

Re: Tool "Sober" drum fill/Sheet music

Well someone spent the time transcribing a crapload of notes just for the intro, so 3$ seems more than fair.

Remember when we had to figure all this out by ourselves without youtube cheats ?

Sure you can.

Start now and practice until you get it right.

Kind of like everything drum related.

Keep calm and tune on.

Re: Namm 2019 rumors

I own a set of both Hybrids and RCs. I agree with your point and enjoyed your rant, but the RCs (and amh) are absolutely not overpriced. Quite the opposite IMHO.

I got mine for under 4000$cad...

Re: What to do?

I would gig the hybrids as they are considerably lighter and sound awesome (I schlep mine in soft cases, no issue).

You wont scuff'em, or maybe just a little, but that is part of a drum kit's...
