Re: Creative/minimalist kick drum muffling ideas?

I used to run an Aquarian Super Kick I and Aquarian Regulatir combo on my set with no additional muffling for years. When I got my new set, it came with. PS3 on the Batter and non ported Ambassador...

Re: Tune Bot - Worthwhile or Not?

Ive had my TuneBot for a while now and like it quite a bit. Love it when I’m tuning my snares to the exact same tone when playing around with heads and tuning etc. it really helps me to understand...

Re: How do I tell my friend that his expensive custom handmade snare is shit?

There’s no mystery to stave drums being “Johnny one notes!” It’s much more difficult to get them to be versatile than ply. I was watching a Mike Johnston episode and he had just received a stave...

Re: Thinking about double bass...

I had a double bass pedal on my set for at least 2 decades. I'd screw around with it, hammer out old metal songs, etc., but never could really use it in any live setting I played in and it ALWAYS...

Re: Drumming recovery and rehab time from fractured arm.

DrummerCA35, I admire your attitude and devotion. I have nothing to say that would compare....

Acidline303, it's way better to break bones than to damage soft tissue. Bones heal way faster and...

Re: Ever think about how coll it would be to replace in-store pianists with in-store drummers?

It would be as effective as serenading your girl with drums!

Re: Heel up - arrrgh!

Don't have a picture, but it sounds like you may be sitting too low. I get that from the "leaning back" comment. Raising the seat should help. Also, there's nothing saying you HAVE to play heel up...

Re: Gretsch Broadkaster vs USA Custom

Agreed, that's a pretty big commitment to purchase blindly. With that in mind, if the OP lives in an area with virtually zero options to play or rent anything remotely close to nice, scouring great...

Re: Gretsch Broadkaster vs USA Custom

This^^is what I like most about my Brooklyn's. They are the newest, not the lowest in the USA line-up. You can also order different sizes than listed as "standard configurations." The website...

Re: Rimshots on die cast hoops

I guess I'm the odd man out. Haven't tried S Hoops, but had the Mapex Stick Savers on my Sledgehammer. I liked that hoop as much as my cast hoops. I don't rimshot much, but side sticks on the DC...

Re: A sad day in Seminole Florida

It’s the same everywhere. Big box stores move in with tons of buying power and stock nothing of value. The distributors decide the mom and pop shops need to commit to the same level as the box...

Re: When you fight the music, your instrument just sounds bad

One of the bands referenced above only had one volume. I had those db reducing earplugs that still allow you to hear notes clearly in and still couldn't make out anything! Interestingly, he band...

Re: When you fight the music, your instrument just sounds bad

The last four bands I played with have been like this. Just no connection to the music whatsoever, pushing and pulling the whole night. It seems tougher and tougher to find people I can lock in...

Re: Beware When Ordering from Canada

The last snare I bought through GC arrived exactly the same. No packing and in crushed box. Surprised it made it at all.

Re: Aluminum snare 14 inch die cast hoops

I asked several sellers, who seemed to all be the same people with different eBay profiles if they had more info on the hoops. They (he/she) didn’t know how many lug snare the hoops supported and all...

Re: Worst expensive snare you've ever owned?

Are we talking USA Customs here or lower lines? I can definitely see how the lower lines would benefit from the upgrades. You mentioned teak oiling the inside, but all except lower lines or real old...

Re: Worst expensive snare you've ever owned?

That may have been the Gretsch of yesteryear, but from everything I’ve been able to gather, their hardware has been provided by Gibraltar for years. Stripping and breakage is literally the last thing...

Re: New snare - If you've got a spare £5k kicking around

The only time I’ve seen Craviato in person was in Japan. That snare would round out the $15,000 three piece set I saw quite nicely.

Re: How to trawl craigslist for deals

Phoenix is loaded with the ladder. I can buy any garbage drums I want for the price of new or a bargain price of double that of new. I see deals in LA and SF, but rarely if ever come across a good...

Re: Is made in the US really that much better?

Just watched a story on China’s Thought Transformation camps, so I can see how people would report “happiness” in their jobs. Also watched a story on organ transplants in China. Evidently, prisons...

It’s the honest looking ones you have to watch out for. I wouldn’t trust him at all. :)
