Re: Worst expensive snare you've ever owned?

A DW with those big turret lugs. Looked ugly and sounded very muted and lifeless.

Let There Be Light on the Drummer

Interesting effect at last nite's gig. The light is from a beer sign on a wall behind us.

Re: How do you know when to crash?

At end of a fill is very common.

Re: Poor Mapex

Poor Mapex.

I think I could take this kit on a world tour and only use soft cases and they'd survive. They are that well built, solid, and stout. And drop-dead gorgeous, too.

Re: Noble and Cooley new snares available.

Was about diameter? I'd love to look into buying a 12x6 N&C.

Re: Drummerís Place In Band

Yes they do. Even in middle school band we would have a class several times a month where teacher would count out 2 or sometimes 4 measures by beating a drum stick on one of the snares, and then...

Re: How can a drummer be expected to know....

Around here snares are usually mic'd. Mic's on cymbals. Mic's on toms. Mic on kick. Volume way up and snare is loudest instrument in entire band. But vocals are also way too hot, as is guitar. Volume...

Re: Drummerís Place In Band

Arnoff is just wrong.

A bad drummer can make a good band sound bad. But a good drummer can never make a lousy band sound great. No way. Too much ego there. Lousy vocals are lousy vocals. Lousy...

Re: New Drums from Mapex

What, exactly, do you mean my "aesthetic" changes? Lugs? Wraps and finishes? Badges?

Re: Pearl Snare Throw-Off Problem

I just bought it on eBay and received it yesterday and it will be covered by eBay protection policy. 99% of my purchases on eBay and Reverb are better than described. This one wasn't. Of the very few...

Re: How can a drummer be expected to know....

You sure snare wasn't mic'd? You're hearing the much snare through 6 piece pop R&B group?

Re: Pearl Snare Throw-Off Problem

Here are two pics. They show how, after rotating tension bolt, the angle of bolt to lower mechanism changes. When I'm changing tension it looks like the bolt wobbles like a bent screw will look, and...

Pearl Snare Throw-Off Problem

Well, I don't know if it's a problem. So I'll ask.

On my Pearl Omar Hakim snare, it has a vertical snare throw off. I can't seem to loosen or tighten it when it's in up/on position as there is...

Re: Blackrolite Tuning Woes

I noticed problems tuning up a snare, too, but not a Ludwig. It was a Pork Pie. Could not get Evans snare side to tune at all to my sound. If anything I tune on low. The only difference between Evans...

Re: Drumming leading to eviction

Why would you have to do both: leave the band AND have to find somewhere else to live?

As far as eviction proceedings, seems that if the landlord gave you notice that you were in violation of your...

Re: Drummerís Place In Band

In our trio, I am certainly the least important on stage during a gig. We play mostly blues, or what we call jazz-infused blues. I stay outta the way of the other 2 guys I hold down the groove I do...

Re: Anyone ever use the Porters and Davies stuff?

Wow. I went to that link. The list of bands using these products is very long and impressive. These are major acts and hundreds and hundreds of them. Puts to rest any doubt the product isn't "road...

Re: New Drums from Mapex

3 things: name, price, and how it looks. Not necessarily in that order. People buy on impulse the majority of the time. They buy the sizzle not the steak. When was the last time you saw a car...

It seems to me utilization of Drummerworld Forums is way down. Unless Bo is posting about his latest acquisition or change of style or whatever his latest investment is (lol), there's really not much...

Re: Need help with memorizing songs and cymbal crashes

Depends on genre.

In my jazz-inspired blues trio, the guitar (who also plays keys, harp, and sax) and bass know songs by four basic patterns: shuffles, swings, rock, and second-line (clave). Every...

Re: Advice re selling...

List brand and model, sizes (diameter and depth), exact condition of each drum including heads, and use lots of pics. It amazes me how 50% of ads for snares on Reverb and a lot on eBay never list...
