Re: The Drummer's Journal

I really enjoyed it. The writing is great. I like the whole aesthetic of it too.

Cleaning Hardware

Hey guys,
Is there any product or household items that cleans the crap off of hardware?
I was playing in a bar and unfortunately a drunk old guy tripped over our front monitor and sent a mic stand...

Re: More sage advice from Mr. Wooten

Thanks for posting that. I'm glad that I get chances to sit in for bands with members a lot older than me. Being 19, all the kids my age are all into metal and playing the fastest double bass and...

Re: How do I practice this ?

Well I guess I'm stupid. Sorry for giving bad information. I didn't realize a triple stroke with one hand and a single handed roll were that different. I also posted this at like 4:00 in the morning...

Re: How do I practice this ?

That is a single handed roll. Here is a video of Jojo Mayer explaining it.

Re: Sticks sound different on pad

When you're playing, do your hands look the same? Pay attention to which fingers wrap around the sticks, and where they are on the stick. I've experienced this before and it was because I was holding...

Re: Buying new drum kit - mid-range price

I second that. I work in a music store, and when those drums came in I expected them to be over $1,000 just because they looked so good. They sound awesome too.

Re: buying new drum kit

^ Amen Brother!
Get the drums you want, don't worry about all that other stuff. Especially if this is your first kit, there's way too many variables in replicating a sound.

Music suggestions?

I know that a big part of coming up with new ideas with the drums is listening to a wide array of music and studying the drum parts. I have been using AOL/Pandora to listen to genres that I know...

Re: Getting back on the throne after a 5 year abscence

I've just recently started playing after a 3 year break. It went a lot better than I would have expected. Granted I only played for about 4 months before I quit, I hadn't lost my sense of timing or...

Re: easy way to record drums?

I would either use a USB microphone or a camera. The quality won't be superb, but it'll get the job done. You can find them for around 20-40 dollars for a cheaper one.

I want to be a better drummer.

I've been playing drums for about a year total. I can play basic things and can keep steady rhythm for a long time. However I feel like I'm slacking and I want to expand my skill set. I don't really...

Re: Why did you start drumming?

When I was about 3 years old my grandmother gave me a plastic drum for Christmas, it came with these bright orange sticks that were essentially mallets. I used to beat the hell out of that thing...
