Re: What drummers need for a gig

I have one of those little plastic storage boxes, about 5"x8"x5" with a latched top. In it I keep a roll of black gaffer tape, some sticky hand muffling material, a few spare drum keys, a phillips...

Re: The constantly changing drum room

Sorry, Bo, I had to do it, it's the truth...

But they look nice. I noticed you've got the Optimount on the rack tom instead of the ISS mount... good move.

Re: Cramped Drums on Tiny Stages

Re: Movies that Feature Drumming

I thought "That Thing You Do" had a great bit of focus on drummers, to be honest. the hero is the drummer!

Re: Online shopping and research

Once I find the model number I use it and the brand name in Google Shopping. I tend to get outstanding results that way.

Re: Pacific Northwest drummers' thread

Then start up a SW thread, this one's for us rained-in folk with our pad thai and ironic craft brews! (j/k)

That would be EPIC man.

Re: How our perspective changes

I think there's a confidence built by playing loudly and strongly that carries over to other volume levels, but I do agree, the noise ordinance reality of present day certainly has made it hard to...

Pacific Northwest drummers' thread

Inspired partially by Larry's thread, and partially by the various Drummerworld meets that have happened over the past couple of years, I'm throwing this thread up there to catch the PNW drummers...

Re: Musically, what are you involved with at the present?

1. Currently none. I have a returning summer gig (apparently) for the local Performing Arts Center and its musicals, and I sub in town when I have the energy. I also play for my church 3 to 4 times a...

Re: Need info on this Ludwig kit please...

At Thomann, they are selling Ludwig Signets (for example) for 1545 euros (about $2040) -- which is a big markup from stateside prices. Here in the US a 3-piece Classic Maple sells new between $1700...

Re: EPs or Album?

More insight and ideas after a shower and another cup of joe:

- Hand out business cards at gigs with QR codes to wherever you are selling your mp3s online. Maybe they can be redeemable for one...

Re: EPs or Album?

Or given that people don't really buy *records* anymore, you could release songs at a time online, which is simplicity itself to do. You can build up quite a bit of buzz depending on how you release...

Re: Playing at Ronnie Scott's tomorrow

Well done! I well know the feeling of really getting it right and starting to feel a "residency" in a great spot. Congrats.

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

Not specifically blues, but "backbeat music"... and no, nobody was, I'm supporting Larry's position (and yours too). I agree with both of you that creativity is not about the genre of music, or the...

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

Creativity, or the lack thereof, can exist in any form of music, on any size of drumset. Creativity exists solely in the space between a musician's ears.

I think it's hilarious to bash blues as...

Re: Liveliness in playing

I didn't watch your video as my wife is still asleep, but the true intensity of playing should be in your touch and tone, and not in any outward bodily movement. Groove has nothing to do with how you...

Well, tonight is closing night. And as I plan on being at the wrap party until it's time to start working on Monday morning sobriety, here's my final report on the show.

We've got this thing...

Re: Insulting a member on the bandstand

I think it's very telling that musicians themselves have bought into the stereotype of musicians as drug-addled flakes and egotists and we get into bands pretty much expecting to get into a scrape...

Re: Insulting a member on the bandstand

Since I tend to think that I make too many mistakes playing live, I would never think of calling someone out for a mistake of their own in front of an audience. Having said that, even if someone on...
