Re: Drum Gear for an 8/9 year old

Wuhans can be very good cymbals. Choosing between Wuhans and ZBTs, I would definitely recommend the Wuhans. In my book, the ZBTs aren't even an option - even for a beginner. It's money wasted,...

Re: 2 up with a 12" tom as the smallest

I don't do 10" toms.

12 is always the smallest for me.

Re: Drum Gear for an 8/9 year old

I wish you would have started this thread before buying the Mapex kit. It is a good kit, but for someone starting out, I would say that was using too much of the budget at the expense of cymbals. ...

Re: How's my tuning?

It's fine.

The toms would work for me. I prefer a tighter snare tone, but that's subjective.

Re: The one piece of gear you'll take to the grave

I'm with you, Mike.

I'm absolutely expecting to enjoy playing to the fullest when I check out of here.

Re: The Cheap Snare Thread

You guys are eventually going to get me to buy a Stage Custom kit. They get referenced so much in multiple forums as great deals, and I never hear anything bad about Yamaha stuff. They are also...

Yeah - it's like a cover band encyclopedia. Excellent.

Re: Tune Bot - Worthwhile or Not?

One thing I eventually figured out - at least for the toms, is - yeah, use the numerical values to get in the zone, but then switch over to tuning by note and dial in a note. I have found that...

Re: Please help - is this bearing edge normal? (Picture attached)

If you live anywhere in driving distance to Precision Drum, bring that to them, and they will fix it in a blink.

Re: Beginner Kid's Kit

I know people online often recommend buying used for a starter kit.

I really think it depends on the situation. If it is a longshot situation to see if someone is interested, and there is a very,...

Re: When the band you're auditioning for,..

They did you a favor not calling you back. You don't want any of that.

Any band not looking to get paid can't be very good. Plus any band doing that ruins live music for the rest of the world....

Re: Beginner Kid's Kit

I just re-read your post, and it looks like you weren't necessarily looking at a tiny kit, but a small kit with a small bass drum.

In that case, I would have to recommend a Pearl Roadshow - in...

Re: Beginner Kid's Kit

Tell us a little more.

- What's your budget?

- Why are you calling it a kid's kit? Do you actually want tiny size drums, or fairly regular size drums with a small bass drum?

Re: When the band you're auditioning for,..

Don't take it too personally.

There could be a million reasons why you weren't chosen, that have nothing to do with your playing.

- They didn't like your look.

- You weren't the right...

Re: Best wood ever for a snare drum??????

This is hysterical.

So what would be the real story? Actual typos from Pearl, or counterfeit stuff?

And, of course - the band I am referring to has that sign on the cage.

Re: Anyone ever play in full drum enclosure?

A band in our area has the drummer inside one.

I'm not a fan of those things at all. My take is - if a band needs a quieter drummer, the drummer should play quieter, not force the drummer to sit...

Re: Anyone ever have GOOD experiences answering a Craigslist band ad?

My involvement in music is for fun, not really professional business. I don't think I would travel further than 1 hour for rehearsal.

If it was 4 hours, it would only be flying for me if I had...

Re: Anyone ever have GOOD experiences answering a Craigslist band ad?

There's no shortage of really badly worded Craigslist ads.

There's often high entertainment value in some of them. Like the ad from the aging star rocker, who repeats his ad constantly, and...

Re: Tune Bot - Worthwhile or Not?

The consistency thing is what sells me, too.

I can tune a drum by ear and make it sound "good." But, I can't dial in the same tones around the kit every time by myself. I just can't.

But...

Re: Tune Bot - Worthwhile or Not?

One more comment.

I'm fairly new to the tune bot. Between the tune bot, and some new heads*** I put on the kit recently, my wife told me after my gig this weekend -
"that's the best your kit...

Re: Tune Bot - Worthwhile or Not?

Yup. Very tiny turns generate significant differences.

I always thought it would be great if we could have gear ratios like guitar tuners have - so the small turns translate to even smaller turns...

Re: Tune Bot - Worthwhile or Not?

I see that occasionally. Although it never interferes with the overall end result.

I think it is hearing at other locations on the head. When that happens, try to put your hand lightly on the...

Re: The Cheap Snare Thread

Now - for ultra bargain - you can get nearly new Pearl snares for 40 to 60 dollars.

Go on eBay and search on Roadshow snare. The Roadshow line is a low cost line - that IMHO, is a great bargain...

Re: The Cheap Snare Thread

And another vote for Pearl Modern Utility.

Those are very nicely built snares for low dollars. Great bargains.
