Re: Practising with a metronome.

I might get a bit of guff for this, but usually when I'm working with a click, I try to remember that the important part is usually the 1. I've heard people obsess with trying to bury each beep of...

Re: Band vent....

What's the band? Maybe he can switch with the bass player for that song? Might be easier to just play root notes on the bass than learn the specifics.

Re: Who uses Moongel?

Who uses moongel? Tone-hating wanna be drummers who can't handle the sound of a real drum.

....And me.

Re: Always out of breath, need to get my stamina up somehow.

Another aspect of this is staying relaxed while you're at the kit. Don't use or tense muscles you don't need, make sure you've got a relaxed grip and you use technique properly to lessen the...

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

You should probably spend more time notating parts for yourself than looking at youtube to see how others are doing it. I'd say look to youtube covers once you've already studied it on your own.

I've been hearing that one for 30 years. Where have you been?

Re: How to handle this situation

If I was in a band, and knew that other members were getting paid less than I am, for no good reason, I would have a problem with that, and I'd bring it up with the leader myself. If he refused to...

Re: Drummer quiz: What kind of drummer are you?

Ha ha. I totally can't help but play along to my blinker-click. I even try to hit my blinker so that it will come in on the 1 of whatever I'm listening to. Once or twice it even seemed to match...

Re: Discouraging & deterring theft on gigs

Oh, and label the hell out of everything.

I've not had anything stolen that I know of, but I do remember a few situations where things got mixed up with the house or another band's stuff and we...

Re: Drum Etiquette at Open Jams

Think about the rhythms you're playing, not what tom you're playing them on. Take away the extra tom at home for a while, and work on being creative with less.

If it makes you feel any better, at...

Re: Cymbal Progressios

I promise you... There are tons and tons of better ways to work on your drumming that will actually improve you, and not to mention, won't rely on certain cymbals.

Just go play, dude.

I would ask to his face what the reason is for paying you less. No excuse for that.

Re: Paiste 2002, B8 but why do they sound so good?

Stretching a cast into shape is absolutely nothing like stamping out a round thing from a huge sheet of b8. The process a cymbal goes through from the rough casting is both extremely time consuming...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Quite literal, though I don't mind if you infer a metaphorical meaning as well. To needlessly expand on this, I was going to say "mayo jar", but I remember reading recently that a lot of the world...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

In my house, we're all equal until the pickle jar lid gets stuck closed. In that case, I'm superior.

Re: another snare buzz thread

That hasn't been my experience... I usually just grab the tuning key and mess with the batter until it's no longer sympathetic to the tone of whatever tom is making it buzz or rattle. I haven't...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Usually no, but there's more than the one side of this coin. Specifically with what we love to do, I've seen it cause more than a fair share of relationship problems. A lot of the time, we love...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Sometimes jealous wives or significant others can be the biggest obstacle to having a female in your band.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard a guy on the phone going "Yea, babe, we're just...

Re: What's the Hardest Position to Fill in a Band?

I've always found that genuinely good singers with a relatively full range are incredibly difficult to find. There's tons out there who can sing in a particular way or style or tone, but can't...

Re: 32nd notes in a 16th note fill - singles or doubles?

I also did my math wrong above. 32nd's at 110 would be 16ths at 220, not 8ths. That's the best my metronome can do though as it tops out at 230. In my head, it still sounds possible. I'll give it...

Re: 32nd notes in a 16th note fill - singles or doubles?

Okay. So consistent-note doubles at 220? I think that's definitely doable. Not something I specifically practice, but I am supposed to go record later today, maybe I can get in a few moments while...

Re: 32nd notes in a 16th note fill - singles or doubles?

You've got your thinking a little bit incorrect here... Never should you not be in control of both notes in a double. Regardless of speed. The big difference between fast and slow doubles, at least...
