Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

Exactly what I was thinking. She looks as if she has never broken a sweat behind the kit in her life.

About as much passion as dry white bread. All fluff.

Exactly the opposite of Evelyn...

Re: DW aquires Gretsch and Latin Percussion...

I love how he goes into a rage, runs out of pure rage and sinks into depression at the end. Perfect. By far the funniest drum-related thing I've ever seen. Every serious jazz guy must be thinking all...

Re: When have you truly 'mastered' a given BPM?

Tell your friend that a guy on the forum said one hour was for wusses. The truth is, if you can't play at 250 BPM for 8 hours you suck. ;)

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

Dame Evelyn Glennie is possibly the most inspired musician I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Her passion is otherworldly, never mind the fact that she is a miracle who plays an instrument...

Re: BPM recall ability

I remember Joe Morello being able to call out the tempos from just hearing the metronome. This was a constant source of amazement to his students.

Not off of a click but off of one of the old...

Re: Letting go vs focusing

Read and apply Effortless Mastery by Kenny Werrner.

It attacks the very thing you are discussing.

Re: Yes, professional grade drum kits are pushed!

Sorry guys, but I'm not buying a drum based on whether or not it can survive a flood. If I wanted an absolutely waterproof set of drums I'd buy acrylic or fiberglass.

Is it now not cool to put...

Re: Wfd starts next thursday july 17

I studied with Mike and found him to be a man of high integrity. I don't know the other side of the story so I will withhold judgement on that.

I did watch you video, however, and I see no reason...

Re: Let's Talk Definitions

I find it funny that this is coming up on a drum forum. If any instrument gets a hard time about its players being musicians it's the drumset. We don't even deal with the melodic and harmonic sides...

Re: Double Bass Pedal Techniques

1. The single stroke roll is by far the most useful rudiment for double pedal work.
2. The state of the art right now in double pedal playing requires having an excellent single stroke roll that...

Re: Herbie Hancock: How I Became Friends with Tony Williams

Tony was "Mozartian" in his talent level. A gift that comes around only once or twice in a generation.

Re: Worst song ever

Oh man, that was friggin' funny! That guy yelling after they stopped playing sounded just like Yosemite Sam. I'm siting here at 5 am trying not to wake everyone with my maniacal laughter.

Re: Practice to Mastery?

In his excellent book, Effortless Mastery, Kenny Werner defines mastery as "...playing whatever you're capable of playing... every time... WITHOUT THINKING"

If you think about it for a moment....

Re: double bass speed question 4 you

The most important thing for fast double bass is to be able to hear the attack of each note cleanly from your monitor or headphone.

As far as the sound that the listener hears, a Bonham type sound...

Re: anybody know whats going on with Vaughncraft?

Wow, how could anyone not be ashamed to ship that miserable excuse for a drum shell is beyond me. It looks like it was made by a blind shoemaker working in the dark.

Re: leaving the kick beater on the bass head?
