Re: Grip Change Imposed UGH

Here is how I do it. Been doing it for a long time.

I learned to play German grip. But when my right hand moves over to play the ride cymbal or the floor tom to my right, my grip naturally goes...

Re: Extra sharp chisel 1 - finger 0 :(

Oh gosh ! Sad news.
I hate when that happens.

That is one big drawback from having to do construction, building, craft type work when you are a drummer.

One evening we were setting up on...

Re: I've got the "looper" blues

Sorry for my bad sentence structure.

What I meant to say was.
Can you follow the bass player when the guitar player is looping?
Just let the bass player follow the loop and you follow the...

Re: Straying out of my comfort zone

Should be a great learning experience.

I'm always worried about electronic equipment failures.
Make sure you bring your acoustic kit with you, just in case.

Re: Afraid to sound bad?

Great advice !
I agree. Free yourself.
Pretend you are a famous drummer and you can play however you like.

(However in the back of my mind I'm always worried that Uncle Larry might be in...

Re: I've got the "looper" blues

It just dawned on me. What is the bass player doing this looping thing?

Maybe you could just follow him.

Re: I've got the "looper" blues

I have an idea Larry.
When the guitar player starts the guitar loop, you start a pre-recorded drum loop.
Then you can stop playing and have a quick drink or take a potty break.

Re: Ludwig Stainless Steel Kit for sale?

Search for "Ludwig stainless" on EBay.
There are several.

Looks like it would be cheaper to buy each piece separately.

Re: I've got the "looper" blues

Thank you John...........

I'm assuming that if you record while you are playing and immediately hit loop/play the play back would stay with the beat.

I think the solution for Larry is a small...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

This is a follow up post for Uncle Larry and STXBob.

I re-tuned my toms for a higher pitch sound. Kind of a boing! sound. The way I might have tuned them 50 years ago.
To me it did not sound...

Re: a specific question regarding trad vs matched

I think you need to find a drum teacher to evaluate your grip.

You said, "When playing matched I use middle finger fulcrum".
And you said, "When playing trad I stop the rebound with the fingers,...

Re: Talent show drum part

OK Here is a deep complex statement that explains your situation. If you have no time to learn the part, then you won't learn the part. LOL

But you can probably come up with a reasonable...

Re: Talent show drum part

#1 If you are not good at the double bass then forget the double bass parts.

#2 There are three main drum parts.
Snare beat on three
Snare beat on 2 and 4
Snare beats on the after beats.

Re: Cover Band Drummists - How accurate are you?

Yes I do have a fondness for them.

But at first I did not know what you meant by white Russians.
Until I did a Google search for "White Russians".

Re: Cover Band Drummists - How accurate are you?

Hollywood Jimís three rules for playing the drums:

Rule #1
If you do not provide written charts that show the exact drum part, I will play the drum part anyway I darn well please.

Rule #2

Re: Jim Fernandez

Thank you so much Andy !!

(It is fun to watch my son play in the punk band, but it is pretty difficult to make it through a complete set of punk songs and survive the mosh pit.).

Or maybe Barracuda by Heart.

And just play it faster for some heavy metal stuff...................

Re: Can I keep my toms low on a 22" kick?

Yes if his toms are 8 and 9 inches deep it might work.
My rack toms are 10 and 11 inches deep and I can't flatten them out with my 22 inch bass drum.

If I flatten them out they are too far...

Re: Jim Fernandez

Yes.
For all I know he might have traded it for the two Slingerland kits.

I was only 9 years old. I would play whatever he had set up in his music room. I didn't know nothin'............

Re: "Play something." What do you play?

Funny thing about the drums.
If you play piano, for instance, and someone wants to hear you play; it is great and they will listen and enjoy the music for as long as you want to play.
