Re: # of gigs in 2013?

I did 53 paid gigs with my band (7 pce RnB / Soul Covers) in 2013, about 10 less than 2012.

We have regular public gigs (2 or 3 times a year) at 8 bar / club venues in our area. The rest of the...

Re: Gig/Venue Review....

Greetings from Sheffield Squadleader! I've come across awkward minions at venues now and again but nothing like your experience.

Have you ever gigged this side of the Pennines? There's good...

I don't post often but just had to say how good that was! Still smiling.

Re: Noise complaint filed against me. (Background info included.)

Hello Macmac this brings back memories of my first band! My dad's garage was our practice room and we agreed our playing time with neighbours. They were really nice about it but we couldn't afford...

Re: Ever had a trainwreck?

Kinda off topic but like Andy my band has played venues with noise limiters - at one wedding gig the venue was on an RAF flight path - jets flying overhead caused power cut each time! At another...

Re: Top 10 "household name" drummers

Here in the UK the household names list would probably be topped by Ringo and Moon. I reckon a fair number of people would be able to name Rich and Krupa maybe Peart, not so sure about others that...

Re: Why I don't play V-Drums

Looking at the guy in Bo's video playing so hard (those backbeats!) I wonder if he can hear the e-kit properly?

I use an e-kit at home for practice, including playing along to tracks e.g. to...

Re: Yamaha Japanese made drums

Further to my last post, found a pic of the Sakae as a 4 pce. Taken not too long ago, late 2011. Me and a few guys put together a surf band for a one-off show (Christmas party for a big London...

Re: Yamaha Japanese made drums

My first kit was a white marine pearl wrap Sakae 5 pce, 12x8, 13x9, 16x16 and 22x14 with a 14x5 snare. It was a budget kit but not rock bottom, cost 120 new in 1975. I think it is Phillipine...

Re: Please help me with a little challenge (again) :)

I wouldn't have a problem with your strainer working differently Andy, for me (and most folks I guess) if something works better I would adapt and re-define what I considered "normal".
I think...

Re: Acceptable reasons for you to get up from the drums mid song?

How about a whole band walk-out? Nearly happened with my band a couple of years ago, absolute farce of a gig. Here's the tale...

We were playing a dinner dance at a biggish function venue. We'd...

Re: Any issues with butt tensioning?

Hello Andy,

I play with the strainer somewhere around 8:30. A big butt would be a problem (ho ho)probably rub my right knee (ho ho. Ahem. Seriously now).

My current snare is a Steve Ferrone...

Re: Thinking about buying a Tablet for my drum books pdfs. Any suggestions?

Cheaper than a tablet might be to print 'em out? Also (dare I say it) hard-copy is better than a screen based view?

I have charts for all my bands songs (100+) in individual clear plastic pockets...

Re: Anyone else notice?

THIS!!!!! Drives me wild. It seems every UK TV show with music and a live audience has them clapping leadenly along on all 4 or just 1 and 3. Awful.

Honourable exception to this - Jools Holland.

Re: Advice on IEMs

Interesting points from all. I've considered IEM but not for click - unless the whole band has it. I do use plugs to protect my ears though.

I'm with Bo, I just use the flashing LED on my...

I'd be interested...

Re: Maple Sticks

Me too, been using SD9 Drivers for years. Much prefer them for the size / weight. Sometimes hard to get in my local stores.
