Re: Old fart band + old fart music = young audience - why?

Re: Best 12 inch snare

I would recommend the 12in portnoy signature snare. This thing is beyond versatile, it sounded in context with the jazz, metal, prog rock bands I was in while using this drum. It sounds great from...

Re: Expect band mates to help unload kit

Am I the only guy that feels like what I pack is my business?

Whilst I am setting up my kit, the other guys are doing the whole social thing usually. That's not my cup of tea. I prefer to be the...

Re: Metal drumming without double bass

I can't tell if you're referring to brutal death as a scene or just using the adjective, so this may be off topic.

you kinda need that double kick for live performance of fast stuff... the snare...

Re: Joey Jordison named best drummer of past 25 years

As a young guy who did all the backreading into all of the scenes in extreme metal, I don't understand the hype around lars or metallica past the justice album. Maybe it was totally different to see...

Re: is this a decent deal?

what line the hardware is is all the difference... you already have hardware on your old kit, what do you gain from buying this new kit? Rockstars and swingstars are both intermediate level drums. I...

Re: taking an 8 piece doublebass kit to gig

I used to play the exact same kit, I loved it. It's all covered in cheese label stickers I collected from my work.

I had it ready to go within 5 minutes after getting onto the stage.

I am...

Re: Why are they all so damn young?

Danny Carey started playing at 14.

I think the age thing is a myth for the most part.

It really comes down to dedication and instruction. I've only been playing 7 years now, and I can hold my...

Re: What Is The Purpose Of Drum Solos?

We have 6 songs written, but I only have learned 4 so far. So we fill out the last song for our setlist with an improv drum solo based off my drumoff routine, since the length times out pretty well....

Re: Nothing like the sound of a beautifully tuned bass drum...

With higher than entry level metal basher triggers...

you can adjust the "sensitivity" on it. So then the samples played are matching dynamics of how the drumhead was struck. Granted, it doesn't...

Re: Best deal you've ever scored on drum gear

Re: Maple vs Birch

It really depends on the quality of the kit rather than the wood used.

I just upped my kit from a tama rockstar ( lowmid range kit) to a spaun custom maple kit (top end kit)

The difference in...

Re: What does DW think of x<1 bands?

I used to play in the community college jazz bands (combos and big band)a cover band, my prog band, my metal band, take local scene session gigs, and do live drums for a local rapper all at once.
