I'm starting to enjoy myself :)

As previously reported, I got the seat in an original material trio setup a few months ago. It's a vehicle for the singer/guitarist's material, & it's constructed as a solo project.

I went for...

Re: Ok, do your worst ;)

Thanks guys :) Wish I'd had a bit of time to prepare though. I could have made it so much clearer & with useful variations.

Re: When soundmen attack

Yes, of course those suggestions can be ignored. I'm not advocating making changes to the instrument, or tuning the kit differently in the absence of / or without agreement of the performer. If...

Re: playing less and keeping time

This is why naked open grooves are so deceptively difficult to get feeling right. Try shifting emphasis from playing the notes to playing the spaces. Practicing linear grooves is a good fun way of...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

12 cubic foot of light zebrano, 5 cubic foot of beech. Got something special planned, including a 22" x 12" Origin bass drum :) (example pictures)

Re: Solid shell snare?

I think you've taken my statement out of context. "Solid", as regarded by the OP, is a very broad church. It covers everything from hollow log through to thin shell steam bent, from segmented...

Re: Doomsday scenario

Yes, I have some key contacts too :)

I have considered setting up a sleeper forum attached to the Guru site, but that's thinly veiled. Pearl had the same idea, & look what happened to that! ;)

Re: Brian Tichy: The Importance of Consistency

More often than not, the most impressive member of the band is the one who outwardly isn't.

Re: online "kit builder"

Only on days that end with a y ;)

Several touch sensors actually, but best not discuss that here ;)

Re: Reasons Not to Buy Dixon Artisan Drums?

Those videos are rather pleasing IMHO. Sure, they're processed, I can hear that, but they've done so sensitively to keep a fairly natural overall impression. Most work obviously done on the bass...

Re: When soundmen attack

I agree completely, when the drummer knows how to tune/present their kit such that the sound they're after FOH is achievable. In a professional setting, that's often the case, but not always. In an...

Re: Small and easy to transport drum kit

20" x 12" is a great size. Certainly something I prefer to any 18" bass drum. If not especially well designed, they can be a little one dimensional compared to a 14" deep drum if the fundamental...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

I've come across that so many times, I've lost count. Of course, it shouldn't be like that in a perfect world, but a perfect world doesn't exist.

Re: What's the Hardest Position to Fill in a Band?

The simple answer is - the one you can't find :)

Really, there's no such thing as a default "most difficult" musician to find. To get a quality player of any discipline is difficult enough.

Re: Zoom q3hd help

Are there no recorded files present when you launch handy share? I work on a Mac. Can't help you with PC fault finding. I do know that formatting the SD card is a vital step to functionality.

Re: Better after time off?

Of course, I can't speak from a position of dedicated practicing like you Jeff, but in many areas of endeavour requiring concentration, there's something about a break that delivers fresh imputes &...

Re: Roger Taylor - QUEEN

I enjoyed that Ian. I suppose if I was so presumptuous to believe I have a "trademark" to my groove, it's actually the reverse of Roger's. I tend to open the hi hat by default at the same time as...

Re: Solid shell snare?

I can't help you on specific years of Radio King production changes, etc, but I can give you some very general guidance.

1st up is to pretty much ignore the term "solid". In isolation, it's close...

Re: 2014 Snare Drum Olympics - Guru results, Bermuda's Review!

The judges were referring to clearance between the underside of the hoop, & the top of the lugs. The contention being that a very worn head may mean there's no longer enough tension adjustment to...
