Re: Items that will help reduce volume of drums

If you're going to get pads to put on the drums to reduce volume you'll not go far wrong with the Aquarian SuperPads - they allowed me to play at all hours of the day or night without disturbing...

Re: Hit Like A Girl - Drum Contest

Sorry to hear you didn't make it thru Caz - I always enjoy your drumming and your band.

I actually followed HLAG less this year because I found their new website very slow - it would take so long...

Re: Buying kit for gigs- where to start

If you're sharing the backline at the gig then it's generally expected that you bring your own cymbals, snare and bass drum pedal. I usually throw a light weight straight cymbal stand in the front...

Re: Yer next item on the list

- Craviotto 6.5 snare
- 16x16 Gretsch Brooklyn or Yamaha Club Custom floor tom (so one of my kits can be two down)
- 20x14 Gretsch Brooklyn or Yamaha Club Custom BD (since both kits have 18 inch...

Re: a Gretsch guy sings Yamaha praises

I'm a fan of Gretsch and Yamaha. My band is recording soon and I'm having a serious dilemma as to whether to bring the Brooklyn kit or my Yamaha Club Customs - both sound awesome. Played a Stage...

Re: Your drumming education?

Played in primary school for 2 years, then discovered punk at age 11 and was self taught from then until embarking on jazz drumming lessons 4 years ago.

Re: Why aren't Recording Customs popular today?

I could've gotten a used Recording Custom kit in my preferred sizes 12/14/20 a few years back for $900 but decided I didn't need two kits at the time. Still kicking meself about that one.....

Re: California drum shop recommendations

When I think "boutique drums" names like C&C, Q Drum Co., & Allegra come to mind - can't recall seeing those names at A Drummer's Tradition the last time I was there, but maybe things have changed. I...

Re: OK, I want to see pics of your 3-piece kits!

I posted it in the other thread you started but here it is again - my Gretsch Brooklyn in bop sizes minus the rack tom. I've recently added a vintage Ludwig cowbell to this set up as well. Super easy...

Re: Show me pics of your small, simple drum sets

Here's a pic of my Gretsch Brooklyn bop kit. I need to have a small footprint with my current band so I just go with snare, bass drum, floor tom, hi-hats, and a crash/ride. (At home I have it set up...

Re: How much time do you split from practice and playing?

Playing with other people and playing in front of an audience calls for it's own skill set - namely the ability to tune out distractions and focus, to not get thrown if one of your bandmates hits a...

We always called them drum kits in Ireland - never heard someone say "drum set" til I moved to the States.

Re: Show us your 3 piece kits!

I use a 3 piece set up with my current band - here's my Club Custom with Yamaha MCA snare, and my Brooklyn kit with the same snare, apologies for how dark the Club Custom photo is, taken at our most...

Re: Dog's Hearing Protection and drumming

Potential hearing damage is only one concern, the more immediate one would be that critters can tend to be sound sensitive in general when it comes to loud novel sounds (gunfire/fireworks/thunder),...

Re: why don't we tend to share pedals and snare?

My reason for always bringing my own snare/cymbals/pedal or requesting the same courtesy if someone is using my kit is preference. I like the feel of my pedal, and the sound of my snare and cymbals...

Re: Poll: Self-taught vs teacher

Started playing at 10 years old. Self taught, always played in bands that wrote their own songs, no drum covers for me. Got really into jazz and started taking lessons with a focus on jazz drumming...

Re: How Many Trips from Car to Gig?

One trip if I'm using the RocknRoller cart or 2-3 if I don't bring it. Nine times out of ten I bring it though.

Re: Difficulty in taking positive feedback.

Think of it this way - that person who complimented you had a choice: they didn't have to compliment you, they could've continued chatting to their mates, staring at their phone, bellied up to the...

A bigger port isn't the solution to your problem. Your bass drum wasn't "quiet" because the unported resonant head was preventing sound from coming out. Unported heads make for a boomier sound.
