MOXIE - took the Pearls to a gig already

Well, not necessarily a gig, but it was a reading/rehearsal big band. Made up of local pros. The director was someone I hadn't seen in over 20 years since college and he shows up with about 20...

Re: Why is it called "Decade" Maple?

I think you should treat yourself ASAP. At the prices dealers are blowing them out at, there probably isn't much left now. And I think if you do find them, your only choices are shamrock green in...

Re: New Drums Weekend!

Lotsa life changes in the last five months. And headquarters announced this line is discontinued so inventory is being blown out, so I jumped on one just because. I've always been a fan of...

Re: New Drums Weekend!

They do sound great with the double-ply emperors they have on now. So Pinstripes would've been a good choice too. The clear ambassadors worked ok, but l couldn't get a deep enough tone out of the...

New Drums Weekend!

I received a new kit from headquarters yesterday.

Pearl Masters BCX birch drums in Golden Bronze Glitter: 12x9, 13x10 rack toms, 16x16 floor tom, 22x18 bass drum. Most of my kits are all maple,...

Re: 8 lug snare drums. Thoughts?

Yeah Tama has this thing about 11. They even made 11Ē toms. Apparently, nobody cared as much about 11 as Tama did though. Kinda like 23 with DW.

Re: Trick VMT Pub Kick

Perhaps beyond 14Ē deep itís a waste, but if you play double headed with no muffling, and no mics, you do notice a difference in depth sound.

Well, I got my die cast hoops yesterday so today the experimentation begins!

Re: 8 lug snare drums. Thoughts?

Here's what I've noticed as you increase the amount of lugs on snare: your "sweet spot" where the drum sounds good gets smaller. So with an 8-lug, that sweet spot is pretty big. 10 lugs gets a...

Re: Convince me not to buy a Saturn V...

On a downside though, I'm still not happy about their use of alpi wood for that outside veneer. I'd feel different about it if, like DW, it was a wrap that's actually integrated as a ply, but they...

Re: Convince me not to buy a Saturn V...

Go get it and get it out of your system. Saturns are nice drums. Although I donít want to be a salesman, Pearl has recently discontinued the Masterís MCX and BCX Lines, and many kits are being...

Re: I wish I didn't care when I was younger

Thanks for the kind words!

No, the leader isnít giving me anything to go through beforehand, it might all be new stuff anyway (I hope). Besides, who has time? Iím kinda jealous of my free time,...

I wish I didn't care when I was younger

.....otherwise I probably would've gotten along much quicker!

Back in my collegiate days, I think I cared too much about being a good drummer. I'd hem and haw, and practice practice practice,...

Re: unusual notation

That's what I was getting at. Some of the figures Podemski uses you just don't see anywhere else. Although, they are not hard to decipher once you start studying the book, the fact that none of it...

Re: Die cast (again?)

It is kind of a strange dilemma. I do like how the drum sounds the way it is, so in a technical sense, I should just leave it alone.

But there's this inner conflict of trying something new just...

Re: Die cast (again?)

I had a theory: to try just the top hoop and go with a regular ambassador head (I like coated Emperors now as it toned down the ringiness).

Die cast (again?)

In the spirit of AVH, Iím gonna experiment with die cast hoops on my 6.5Ē Supra. Iíve had steel shells and wood snares with die cast hoops. Obviously I need to find out if it works, but does anyone...

Re: Opinion poll

I think you’ll dig that this isnt a wrap - it’s a lacquer. Which means it would be a sparkle kit you could actually leave out in the sun if that happened. It would be interesting to know how thick...

Re: Opinion poll

Not sure about the stones, but I know Pork Pie does a kit in bronze glitter, but the bits are actual cymbal shavings, and it gets impregnated into a wrap. The Pearl one here is actually a lacquer...

Re: Opinion poll

At NAMM I saw Will Kennedy play the silver glitter kit Pearl set up for him in their room (the kit was outfitted with their electronic pads and he was demo-ing that stuff). I think at the time I may...
