have to agree with all of you guys his playing is so fine and loose, he makes things look so easy but once you get behind your kit that's where you realise that it needs a bit more skill to get close...

Unfortunately I don't realy remember from which drumfest video it was (modern drummer or drummers collective), but Steve Smith gives a little lesson on the various sounds you can get out of a snare...

I've never encountered such problem on a gig, but the issue with drums, compared to other instruments, is that people think that by just hitting the different gears they can come out with a rythm....

I've only seen two vids from him on youtube, the most annoying thing is all the talking he does....man I just fell like taping his mouth so that he gets to the playing and keeps some grooves going

I prefer with no shoes I get a better feel of the pedal + it's easier for me to do the heel toe without shoes......I don't need to twist my leg to get the heel in there

yeah that video is entertaining I loved it for the fun and also for one or two grooves he spits out whcih are pretty interesting.

This guy realy grooves....for me the top two on my groove list are Rick Latham and David Garibaldi, what they play is easy to digest for the ears (as opposed to Weckl which I love but so many fills...

I think this guy really grooves woth his ride and bass drum, nice fills also. He's got a sweet a touch on his hi hat and ride bell also.
I would've liked to hear him in other ventures than Maiden...
