Re: One Drum Set Vs Several Drum Sets?

One year in my younger days I got hired to play for a bunch of kids groups at a choir festival on a college campus where several different theaters around campus were going to be used. Fortunately...

Re: One Drum Set Vs Several Drum Sets?

And youíre right. Itíll work for 95% of players out there who do one gig at a time. When you start working more, you find you need something to practice on while one kit is on its way out to a...

Re: Is this good or bad?

That, or you know how people just like to sabotage themselves? That ran across my mind too. Not only do they perhaps have overly high expectations musically, they make it hard for newcomers to join...

Re: Is this good or bad?

Here's an interesting thing: these particular musicians without a drummer were going to be opening for the dinner set at a restaurant and my wife and I decided to drive out and have dinner and give...

Re: One Drum Set Vs Several Drum Sets?

Like Anthony said, he'd be screwed if he only had one kit to cover the variety of work he does, so in a Craftsman tool sense, you need more than one kit. That's just a given when you start working a...

Re: Brian Downey

Thin Lizzy is also a favorite of mine. I think I played ďAlive and dangerousĒ til the grooves wore out! Brian Downey is one of the unsung best.

He sounds like wedding gig material right there!

Re: Trying to decide dilemma

So this showed up today. I'm in the process of changing heads and re-tuning so I'm excited about it. If it barks like the toms do, then it'll be very cool.

When I visit Pearl in September,...

Re: Pearl Decade Maple - talk me out of this!

Those are good drums. However, what kind of price are you talking? There's Pearl Select on Reverb.com that is Pearl's clearing house of discontinued lines. They might beat the price with a new kit...

Re: From 3 up two down to 1 up 1 down

Well, not to derail this thread, but 99% of the time I'm playing a basic 4-piece, and I love that I can do that without any issues. Most of the time the stage space dictates what I can bring along,...

Re: From 3 up two down to 1 up 1 down

And I'm considering going from a 1-up,1-down to a 4-up, 2-down and two bass drums! Live large I say ;)

Re: Is this good or bad?

Best response to the thread so far.

I've gotten a lot of advice on this in the last 20 hours and of course the smart thing to do would be to just continue on and play with them and see how it...

Re: Speaker Recommendation

In my brand new truck with the iPod right there in front of the radio I get these intermittent stops and starts to the music. And other friends of mine have issues identical to this. So maybe...

Re: Speaker Recommendation

Agreed. If you can live without Bluetooth, one of those little Harbinger PA systems from the Guitar Center for $299 is a way better investment.

Is it me or is Bluetooth just not cool? In my...

Is this good or bad?

I'm generally pretty level-headed. I'll get asked to play, and if people like it or not, I'm usually ok if they do call afterwards or not. I like to think I'm pretty secure in my own skin and if...

Re: Being sensible and a Pearl SSC kit ;)

Generally this is how it works: you earn enough money so when the wife says things like "I'd like China closet" or "How about we try one of those Sleep Number beds?" you can actually say yes and...

Thanks for the kind words. It's nice at least someone appreciates me ;)

I'm shopping for something new. Please stay tuned ;)

Re: Moving on

Just tell it like it is and go. Most musicians will take it all personal anyway and get huffy, so you might as well do it quickly, have a discussion and end it.

Re: Y'all ever seen this dude?

And then Dave Weckl met Freddie Gruber, and everything changed. Heck, Neil Peart did the same thing with Freddie.

However, I'm sure his pedigree will let him know when to be less busy, but I've...

Re: Y'all ever seen this dude?

I like Vinnie, but I'm not aware of his history before Frank Zappa. To me it's like he just appeared all of sudden with Zappa, and then immediately went into studio work in L.A. after he left Zappa....

Re: Being sensible and a Pearl SSC kit ;)

I'm not sure how this thread got on snare drums, I thought I was discussing the Session Studio Classic drums in smaller sizes.

And I do use the Supra constantly - maybe it's a holy grail that...

Re: Y'all ever seen this dude?

Because sooner or later you want to start making money if you’re gonna go to the trouble of hauling around drums to play with people ;)

Even Vinnie Colaiuta does his fair share of 2 & 4 ;)

Re: Pros and Cons of rack mount vs. snare stand mounted tom

I use my one rack tom in a snare stand simple because I have no mount on the bass drum, and abstain from using multi clamps when it's just easier for me to use my light, flat-based hardware.
