Re: I know no religious discussion, but any other church drummers in here?

Been playing steady church gigs since 2007 when I picked up the sticks again. Some worship leaders I thoroughly enjoyed working with and were into collaboration, teamwork and improvisation and made...

Re: Things guitarist tell drummers to do...

It boggles the mind, but here goes:

1) Last band I was in, the keys player couldn't make rehearsal one Saturday so the bass player kept telling me to "play more cymbals to cover for Ted being...

Re: would you buy a ludwig accent drum set...

For $85.00 you can't go wrong if the kit is in good shape. Rehead it and you're good too go.

Several years ago a good friend of mine sold me his son's Ludwig Accent kit for $50.00. It had been...

1st attempt tapping the space bar was around 750ish. 2nd attempt was 883 using the space bar and tapping my foot. I'm stopping there. Ha!

Re: Am I the ONLY guy that likes the sound of poplar drums?

King of the inexpensive kits here.

Lucky for me, my parents were born during the depression and were young adults in WWII, so were taught to be frugal and not get rid of anything. So when I...

Mentoring a young drummer

It's funny where life takes you sometimes. What started off 3 weeks ago as a 1 off gig to help out a buddy who is interim WL at a nearby church, has pretty much turned into a voluntary long term...

Re: Zero practice gig..............

A few years ago I played a 1 off gig with a country band that has a regular Saturday afternoon gig at the White Elephant Saloon in the stockyards area of Fort Worth, Texas. Big tourist trap kind of...

Re: Questions about 4 piece drum set up. What do you think?

Now after reading this thread I want to go back to a 4 piece!

Currently I'm stuck in the "real men have more drums" mentality and I have the Ludwig Epic Euro set up as a 6 piece w/ virgin kick...

Re: Drinking and Drumming

For a church gig I usually have 3 or 4 brews before playing.... Ok, jk. Grin.

If for some reason I have the willies, yes, a beer or shot of something to soothe the nerves right before the gig....

Fun gig

I played again at the church where my friend was interim WL. Had a blast keeping my chops up and going thru the same routine I did almost every Sunday for 4 years before. Not too much heavy lifting...

Re: Max Weinberg and Paul T. Riddle: The Role of a Drummer in a Band

Interesting read! Thank you for posting. I the grand scheme of things I think Max was/is a very underrated drummer that never really got the credit he deserved.

Re: I subbed this weekend...

Haha thanks guys! Even my wife was expecting some sort of disasterous outcome. Grin.

I was just wondering how it works in these church/worship bands. Are there sermons, speeches and scripture...

I subbed this weekend...

...and played out in public...something I pretty much said I wasn't going to do for a while. This happens all the time, I end up eating my words.

Let me explain (short version). Saturday...

Thank you for your kind words everyone. I don't get to see her often enough and I got to visit with her for a few last night. Driving home I thought how could have I done anything else BUT turn...

Turned down a sub gig

For a very good reason. Last Saturday morning I got a FB IM from a good friend who I have jammed with several times and thoroughly enjoyed myself. He is in a blues funk band and needed a sub that...

Re: Achieving Greatness

I'll never be great at anything and I never really wanted to be an over-achiever anyway, so I'm quite content being a slacker.... I'm really good at being a slacker. With a bit more effort, I can...

...and much needed. Sorry for my rant yesterday twisting off about everything under the shining sun.

After making the decision to stop all public drumming, save for maybe helping out a buddy...

Re: Got that text last night....

I feel for you. Band dynamics are always a challenge even in the best of circumstances. The most recent band I was in called it quits in Feb/Mar for the same reasons. I learned a lot of good...

Taking a break....

It's been posted on here a number of times, about how folks take a break and work thru whatever caused them to put the sticks down in the first place. But I never dreamed I would want to take that...

Re: Difficult band members

I feel your pain.

I've temporarily given up on trying to find decent chaps to play music with and currently I'm band-less and it feels good. Our band fizzled out 2 months ago and they were all...

Re: Band leaders

First band I played in since drumming again in 2007 was a church band. The leader was a great guy; led from the piano. He was a great pianist and good singer and a great leader IMHO. He allowed me...
