Re: Considering a Yamaha Oak Custom set - Tell me everything you know...

That's a REALLY pretty set, Thegshow. I dig it. I think these sets were around $2k new.

Re: Pearls MCX Masters Maple Snare Drum?

Yeah, my 5 1/2 version can be tuned to have lots of ring if wanted. I've thought of selling it several times, because it kinda just sits there. But I got it for a good price and it's a quality...

Re: Pearls MCX Masters Maple Snare Drum?

Wow, this is a pretty old thread! :)

Since then, I bought the 5.5" x14" version of the Pearl MCX maple snare brand new for a steal (clearance at a local shop.) I've had it for almost a year, I...

Re: When soundmen attack

I agree with you totally, sir. I fully expect all soundmen to be assholes and am shocked when they're not. I basically just try to have minimal contact with them when setting up in between bands in...

Re: When soundmen attack

I agree. I don't have the patience or time to deal with this when I'm setting up, so I'd rather just get up and running with a good sound quickly and get to playing.

Too much hassle arguing about...

Re: why I wring my hands in aggrivation, but still bought . . .

It was that throwoff and no, it didn't line up well. I made it work, but it didn't fit like it shouldve.

Re: why I wring my hands in aggrivation, but still bought . . .

I have a Reissue Acrolite (6.5" deep) that turns heads with tone. No joke. I used it in a studio a few months back for 4 songs and the engineer still brings up how great it sounded when he sees me....

Re: PSA - Lubricate your P85.

I recently figured this out myself too. LOL Makes sense and I feel like a moron for now thinking of it sooner.

I use "RemOil" from Remington. Meant for guns. A few drops where metal touches...

Re: Can mods read PM's?

I owned and ran a pretty successful message board for guitarists at one point and I know for sure you could set it up to where all PMs are also posted as new messages in a section nobody else can...

Re: Help With Yamaha Drum Part

That's even a big deal on the shorter versions too. I've struggled with it several times myself! Try the tom mounted at all points on the hex rod and mount it where it has the most resonance. ...

Re: Kick Drum physics experts in the house?

Sometimes the toms that are mounted to the bass drum can resonate and make things sound funny. Just a thought.

The Yamaha oak bass drums are freaking AWESOME, so I hope you get it sorted and...

Re: How LOUD were the classic rock bands??

I didn't read all of the replies, but yeah. The guitar amps back then were clean, clean, clean until they were cranked up to unGodly levels to get the distortion we all know and love.

I've owned...

Re: New Gretsch 3 ply Broadkaster line

I apologize if this was already posted, but it looks like a famous drum shop in TN has one and here's a cool video.

Re: Guitarist comment on drummers

I'm a long time gigging lead guitarist that switched to drums 4 or so years ago. Nobody hated drummers, but I will say that a majority of drummers I've played with or seen in the area kinda suck. ...

Re: Yamaha Drums

I recently bought a copper Yamaha snare with the nouveau lugs and I feel the same way. They are much harder to work with IMO.

Re: Warped die cast hoops

I've used the method shown in a "Drum Dial" official video on YouTube I saw one time. Don't have time to search for it now, but I'm sure you can find it. It's on their channel.

You basically use...

I have a set of Club Customs, but haven't tried any other hoops on them. Would love to experiment some day!

Re: Quality of new Chinese Yamahas?

I really like the shallow toms! I don't play with my toms flat at all, but they do allow me to position them more comfortably than the slightly deeper toms. I mean, it's pretty slight, but...

Re: Quality of new Chinese Yamahas?

Hey Mike, thanks!!! I had coated Vintage Ambassadors on the Oak Custom kit I owned for a little while and never tried those heads on the Live Custom. So that probably makes a difference -- not sure...

Re: Worst song ever

I can't believe I'm coming to the defense of a modern pop boy band, but let me explain. 5 Seconds of Summer is a welcomed change. Young boys playing REAL INSTRUMENTS, writing original music, and...

Re: It's the room not the kit !

All it's really saying is that you may need to adjust the tuning of your drums to sound the way you like when you move into another environment. Just by listening to the drums. It really is that...

Re: Singers dragging the tempo

My band kinda "forced" me to use a metronome live. Once I realized it stopped ANY argument about me speeding up or slowing down, I fell in love with it. Nobody says anything about the temp anymore...
