Re: Great links for drummers

Nice job on Wheels. I used to play in a band that did that one, & I wish would have had a transcription back then. It is not a hard song but,I couldn't tell if there was a swung 16th note pattern...

Re: Where do all the drum sets go?

I think most ofGary Asher's collection is for sale, at least of for the right price anyway. I sold him a few kits about 5 years ago but they were probably for his students.

Re: Pro Ludwig, Anti Guitar Center

I am lucky enough to have a small time drumshop in my nieghborhood, with a knowledgeable staff, plenty of used gear, willing to do straight up trades. I try to avoid GC at all costs with the...

Re: What do you think about Casey Cooper (COOP3RDRUMM3R)

I am not a fan of CC, but there seems to be a lot of unnecessary smugness from the "experienced drummers" in this thread.

Re: Kit Too Big or Too Small

This.

I have a 9 piece but I usually spilt it into a 5 piece to take to gigs & keep a 4 piece setup for practice. When I have a lot of down time I combine them & have a little fun on the big kit.

Re: Is It Just Me?

Axis & Paiste were probably the two brands that I was obsessed with. Ludwig too at one point. I have branched out a little more now though.

You can never have enough paistes! I'm slowly...

Re: Thoughts on fill placement

One of the functions of drum fills is to signify an upcoming change a in a song. This is why they are normally played on even numbered bars at the end of a phrase.

Randomly playing a fill in the...

Interesting, I was wondering what type of stuff you were playing these days.

Re: Phil Ehart

I am big Kansas fan. They may not be regarded as highly as some other prog bands, I always thought they sounded more coherent than Yes or ELP.

In a transcription book Kerry Livgren talks about...

Re: How Much Does Character Matter?

Its is the parents job to teach children good behavior and at what age they should be exposed to provocative influence.

You can't legislate morality and it is not societies job to be G-rated all...

Re: How Much Does Character Matter?

Musicians personal lives do not matter to me at all. I am in it for the tunes & nothing else.

Sure there are exceptions which have already been mentioned (pedophiles, racists, etc.) but for the...

How exactly did this work? How did you eat, sleep, etc, while playing for a month straight?

Re: Jumping Ship on Double Bass

Focusing on having good single pedal technique is important. So is being able to use the hats.

One thing I wonder though: Why is it that some people think that by attaching a 2nd pedal causes your...

Re: Sonic Identity?

I was really set on having a signature sound at one point, but over time I moved on and tried to play whats appropriate.

Drums are a tough instrument to try to set a specific sonic identity to...

Re: Dave Letterman's Drum Solo Week

I agree that the whole solo flows much better when each section has time to play all the way through. If he played the whole electronic section there probably would not have been enough time to do...

Re: Just a rant....

That is definitely a benefit. I have been using 3 piece with 3 cymbals for a church gig lately. It is so much easier to transport and set-up time is much shorter.

As someone pointed out earlier,...

Re: Dave Letterman's Drum Solo Week

I will preface this comment by saying (so not offend any of neil fanboys).
I really like the music of Rush from 2112 thru the Signals album.

Peart solo tonight was alright. I like the longer...

Re: Just a rant....

I don't like using other peoples kits or house kits either. It sucks but I will do it if necessary.

If your playing original music at bars with 3 or 4 other bands on the bill, just go with it....

Re: Dave Letterman's Drum Solo Week

I dig it. So far the solos have been pretty basic from a technical pov but the point is to entertain people. Sometimes we as musicians get so wrapped up in complex ideas, that we forget about being...

Re: Pretty bad news for a gig I have tomorrow...

You could mic the amps through the PA. or use a signal splitter & use 2 amps for 1 guitar. Not sure how well that would work though.

Re: cybal challenged

It can be tough to practice without bothering someone.
Perhaps you could find somewhere else to practice where volume is not an issue. Then you wouldn't have to cover everything with towels/shirts....

Re: Single Pedal Slide (Side to Side)

I have never heard of a side to side slide. Not sure how it would work but interesting.
Swivel is just as applicable to one pedal as it is to two though. Although it is probably more useful for...
