Re: Calling All Rogers Experts

Yeah I think this is a "Frankenstein" Rogers kit. I would certainly check it out in person but I think the appeal of either the Fullerton Era, Big R, or XP8 era of Rogers are the shells. If you have...

Re: Camco Oaklawn 12 14 18 with snare

Both kits setup and being played! I am still dialing in the Oaklawn and considering what heads to try. That being said I have heard good and bad about the Evans Calftone and UV1 heads.

Re: What do I buy and do?

When I started playing I had a room at my parent's house in the garage. It was in Florida so filled CMU (concrete masonry units) with just one small window. I never had complaints just playing...

Re: Ludwig club date???

60's Clubdate kits rule! I have had so many of them. If you can find one the Ludwig Standard S300 (12 14 20 kit) are the same shells as a Clubdate or Superclassic kit just with MIJ hardware and...

Re: Camco Oaklawn 12 14 18 with snare

Thanks for all the kind words! The green Camco is one of my favorite kits of all time.

Re: Calling All Rogers Experts

To me they look like the offshore made Rogers. The shell interiors don't look right for all maple XP8.

My Rogers experience is mostly 60s through late Fullerton era.

Camco Oaklawn 12 14 18 with snare

Just picked up one of my "grail" kits. Camco Oaklawn era 12 14 18 with matching snare. The first picture is taken along side my LA Camco 12 14 18. I can say for certain that Camco kits in these sizes...

Re: Beginner Kid's Kit

Timing of this thread is perfect as my daughter (6 years old) really wants to play. I have been giving her lessons and teaching her rudiments first and she gets it. We will see if my sons follow suit...

Re: Old Gretsch Kit

Most of the parts are their original gold plating. Some parts were swapped with NOS gold plated HW and minimal parts were plated. Still expensive, however, at am average sale price of $15k or more on...

Re: Hating New Ludwig Snare - NEED ADVICE

If you are not happy with it then I would take it back. Also the acrolite is a great all around snare. My advice is if you want a nice Ludwig snare that is metal then go for an LM402. If not an LM402...

Re: Old Gretsch Kit

None of the pieces are brass. All is 24k gold plated. Some of the base metal might be but all hardware is gold plated.

Re: Old Gretsch Kit

Yes and it was a catalog finish but even then you had to inquire with Gretsch as to the pricing. I am guessing then as now not many people are ordering drumset with all the most expensive options.

Re: Old Gretsch Kit

Yes I sure do! I have at this point a large collection of vintage rare drums. A lot showed up at my door in very rough condition and over the years I have restored many.

This one is rare as it was...

Old Gretsch Kit

So these showed up today. Most here are players and not collectors. I guess I am somewhat of both these days. About 12 of these kits made back in the day (I think more like 20) and maybe 10 examples...

Re: Need some advice on the value of a rewrapped vintage ludwig kit :)

FWIW a Ludwig Standard kit in the S300 configuration (12 14 20) is the exact same 3 ply shells as a downbeat at usually a much cheaper price.
