Re: Oh No, Not another Bearing Edge.

I just imagined a full drum set using regular bearing edges. And also having a set of three or four toms with this special bearing edge.

And you use these special toms only for solo work. I'm...

Re: Oh No, Not another Bearing Edge.

Super duper !

I'm with Larry on this. Gimme' the sustain.
Heck, I can figure out ways to shorten the sustain if I choose to.

It will be interesting to hear what this new edge might do to snare...

Re: Snare Rim Shot Issue

I'll bet you have your snare drum cinched up tight in your snare stand. There is no need for this. Unless your snare is tilted at a steep angle. I think my snare sounds better when it is just...

Re: So should you never bounce doubles?

If you are not bouncing the stick, using the rebound, then you would be using only your wrist. As in not letting the stick rebound on it's own.

There would be a limit on how fast you could do...

Re: 5x15 Supralite

Sounds like a great drum !!

I have been looking for a steel snare for outdoor gigs.
Not sure I want a 15 inch snare between my legs. But the 14 inch would work for me.

Re: DW Collectors Copper 14x3.5" Value??

Yeah, $450 seems about right for the value.

How about this copper PDP. It belongs to one of our board members.

Re: Copper Phonic Video Demo

I did not mean to start a negative thread on the Ludwig Copper Phonic by comparing it to the Acrolite.
I would love to have one. It just seems that, based on the posted demo, it sounds similar to...

Re: Copper Phonic Video Demo

Being played as hard as he was playing it, it sounded a lot like an Acrolite aluminum drum at the medium and high tunings.

I would like to hear this drum in person played along with an Acrolite...

Re: Antiquing / Distressing drums and hardware

If you have access to a sand blaster that would work great. Sand blast parts of the hardware then soak then in salt and vinegar.

Re: Antiquing / Distressing drums and hardware

It sounds like what you are going for is an antique / worn out looking kit that has good working hardware. And a kit that sounds good.
For instance if you had new high end hardware but it is...

Re: Antiquing / Distressing drums and hardware

Oh yes !

I'm really liking this. Especially where the veneer is missing.
A distressed drum kit is a great idea.

Re: 1974 Tama Royalstar Snare Question

Sounds like a great snare drum !!

Your snare is probably chrome plated steel. You would have to put a deep scratch in the shell to determine what it is made out of. Does a magnet stick to it? ...

Re: Comparing ones abilities with others

Larry, I applaud your honesty.

But I still say we all do this. Evaluating musicianship is part of listening to music.
Do you have a favorite guitar player? How do you know he or she is your...

Re: Where is the "best kit" thread :)

You might have spoiled your ear a little bit playing that e-kit for so long. If you want the "sound to ring as true and beautiful as a piano", then you should get in touch with a drum builder. Like...

Re: Where is the "best kit" thread :)

Yes you are correct. I probably should put some old nasty heads I have on a Live Custom tom and see what happens.......

Re: Where is the "best kit" thread :)

I have studied the subject pretty hard during the last two years. And what I have found is this: Yes, most intermediate drum sets (under $1000) can sound great with certain heads and tunings. But...

Re: Comparing ones abilities with others

Here is my perspective on this subject.

I played a lot of drums when I was young. Two years ago I began playing again after 40 years of not playing. So having come back from such a long absence...

Re: How to naturally play quieter?

Three ideas.

1 Try playing with 7A sticks.

2 Hold the sticks between your index finger and your middle finger, instead of your index finger and your thumb.

3 Tilt the snare drum so you...
