Re: 2014 Trick Drums

Looks mostly like finish options.

Re: bass drum depth

That makes literally no sense. The comparison would be larger amounts of drums, and even that's a bad analogue.

Re: Open handed technique

Yup.

Having played an "Orbinated (http://www.pearldrummersforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=455915&d=1376951188)" setup for a couple months now, I definitely prefer open-handed to cross-handed...

Re: What drummers have marched?

That's a hell of a burn!

Were you the one who knew the part? :)

Re: Practice Pads

I've been using my Offworld Outlander for about a year now with no complaints. Affordable, great feel (for a high-tuned snare), and it has a rim. If you want a more accurate feel for low-tuned...

Re: PDP Concept Maple vs. DW Design Series

I agree wholeheartedly. I'd take the Concept Maple any day, especially with those delicious lugs and finishes.

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

Well, I'm finally parting with my beautiful 13x5" Padauk stave snare (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=191253102098). Check out the ebay link for all the hella details. Cost me over...

Re: Pearl Crystal Beat Drums

Weird that they're only including 1.6mm hoops on them, but I suppose it's not a necessity since they aren't using ISS mounts.

That marketing copy on the Music Radar pictures is offensively awful.

Re: hi hat dis-assembly

Me too. I don't have cases for anything but the snare & my cymbals, so I have a very useful system for transporting in my CX7- floor tom upside down, rack tom on top with protector in between in the...

Re: Not denting heads

Also, I don't dent snare heads almost ever- even G1s- though they do get a bit of a 'crater' effect when I take them off. Rimshots constantly.

Re: Not denting heads

Yeah.

One thing that I do to get harder hits is also a marimba technique learned from my amazing teacher where one "aims" below where the bar/head is. I guess it's hard to explain, but I'll play...

Re: What full albums do you like to drum along to?

Me too! I like All of the Above even more.

Some I frequently play selections from are Coheed and Cambria's "Good Apollo I", The Ocean's "Pelagial", Animals as Leaders's "The Joy of Motion", and...

Re: Not denting heads

I use pretty heavy sticks and haven't dented ANY heads (including my 10" g1) since I made all my toms nearly flat. They're pretty low tuned generally too. Larry, I think it's just a matter of what...

Re: Cutting a giant hole in my bass drum's shell

Mine is a 20x15" stave Purpleheart, 1/4" thick. Clear ambassador batter. Before, I was using a Coated G1 batter and Smooth White Ambassador reso with a 2" hole. I'm going to try the coated G1...

Re: What happened to the resonance?

I'll have to try this with my kit- I use RIMS mounts currently (no relevant issues) but I'm interested to see if there's any difference.

Re: Cutting a giant hole in my bass drum's shell

I did it as well, 2.5" hole. I put new heads on as well so I can't specifically comment on how the sound changed, but with two full head, unmuffled heads (clear ambassador and fiberskyn ambassador)...

Re: Female Drummer Project/Questionnaire

To qualify: I'm not saying that chivalry is still a value that people, including Larry, explicitly appreciate, but we all live in a world where this crap hasn't been washed out completely from any of...

Re: Trimmed down kits

How many times is this big vs. small kit debate going to play out? There's no right answer. Everybody has preferences and a lot of people have ones that are different than yours.

Re: We're not copying Travis Barker

Yup, I play my toms unbelievably flat and low too. Much better feel and consistency, especially with my Orbin or Sastry setups, than a bunch of angles.

The Ocean Collective's "The Origin of...

Re: loose and hard lugs when tuning

There's also the possibility that the head is warped/uneven out of the box. I'm not sure of a fix for that, other than a customer service replacement, or just tuning the other lugs higher to...

Re: Female Drummer Project/Questionnaire

That's very true. I said what I did earlier by pure replacement of "...guy, he's amazing." but I think that was based on the evolution of "guy" to be technically genderless in a casual capacity. It...

Re: Technical question......Song endings

Yeah, definitely not fermata- a fermata, traditionally, means to hold a note to the performer's (or conductor's) discretion, not to improvise wildly.

For reference, this is how Rock Band handles...

Re: Female Drummer Project/Questionnaire

Okay, here goes:

In a throwaway capacity like that, sure. When we discuss the use of the phrase "female drummer" in a negative way, we are talking about the specific selection of that phrase-...
