Re: Beginner and older...

If you want to learn to read drum music, since you have an e-kit, I suggest Roland's DT-1 drum tutor software. It's good for beginners.

Re: The death of retail music stores

I read an article on this a few months back.

GC was recently acquired in a leveraged buyout, a transaction where the buyer
borrows most of the funds for the purchase and then transfers the debt...

Re: Acoustic/Electronic?

You live in a house or an apartment?

Upstairs or downstairs?

Common walls and ceilings are the trouble spots.

Kits are the most annoying to downstairs neighbors, the kick
makes a thud on...

Re: I have to tell somebody!

Yep, prog rock is my favorite of all pop genres too, it represents the pinnacle
of pop to me. Just like the romantic period represents the pinnacle of classical music.
For some reason I like both...

Re: Rubber floor mats for sound reduction?

I used some rubber tiles from here:

If you use the rolled stuff you can always cut it.

Personally I found the rubber tiles easy to work with,
all I needed was...

Re: Does this ever happen to you?

Reminds me of something brother said, who does latin music for a living.
He says there are whole songs where the pulse that you hear listening
to the song is actually on the offbeat. He said...

Re: Looking while playing

I guess what I was hoping for was something like

"good drummers (mostl) don't need to look",

Kinda like piano players.

Kits to me have a fundamentals section,
the money beat stuff, and some...

Looking while playing

Wanted to ask some of the guys here who can actually play (I am a beginner)
if you need to look at your drums (hands and sticks) while playing.

I am finding with some kit layouts I can play...

Re: Tom rythms

This. I know what you are talking about and it is an area I am focussing on right now.
I love tom rhythms and want to develop more there myself.

What I did was to listen for songs (on the radio)...

Re: How to keep my tempo (rhythm) steady?

I too am a new drummer so I can sympathize.

You can do drills to a metronome to help your time.
sort of a more focussed approach than simply playing to a metronome.

Since you have 2 years of...

Re: My court experience

Allow me to offer a contrasting story.

I took up electr(on)ic drums recently, due to moving to an upstairs condo.
Also I sing and play keyboard and I can sing fairly loudly.
I also like to...

Re: Drummers learning guitar

Take it from someone who has played many instruments,
(voice, keyboard, guitar, bass, drums and trumpet),
had lessons on all of them, and even been good on one or two of them,
all instruments have...

Re: Sheet Music Questions

If you have an e-kit (electronic drums) and a computer,
Roland's DT-1 drum tutor software is a great way to learn to sight read.
- It has about 60 songs ranging from rank beginner to pretty...
