Re: Ludwig Supraphonic Like You've Probably Never Seen Before...

alparrot: That's the plan. I hope to raise a little drummer.

Andy: The drum sounds terrible as pictured. I guess it's more of a display piece! Also, maybe Ludwig will want to use it in an...

Ludwig Supraphonic Like You've Probably Never Seen Before...

My daughter, our first child, was born Jan. 17th. We had a close friend take some professional shots. Along with these, we had an idea for a different kind of baby picture. I think it turned out...

Re: Odd-time songs that sound natural

I concur. Matt Cameron is always the first guy to come to mind when discussing odd-time that feels straight. Spoonman, New Damage, Mailman, Face Pollution and many others come to mind.
Besides...

Re: Is being over-educated about gear good, or bad?

Great thread, Bermuda. I find that there must be a balance between gear knowledge and gear usage. With the advent of the internet, the amount of information available to us is greater than ever...

Re: Was Lars' double-bass on the track Dyers Eve a fraud?

I would argue that the studio track of Dyers Eve is not exactly played with perfectly even double bass notes. It is there whether people love or hate it. The same argument could be made for those who...

Re: So... why *has* equipment gotten so expensive?

If you really want to understand why prices increase over time, you need only to look as far as central banking systems and the Federal Reserve Bank. All fiat (paper) money is based on its value in...

Re: Dave Lombardo kicked off Slayers Aus Tour and ripped off by band mates/management?

Don't worry, I found this on his FB page...

I think he would at least use some bigger toms and of course the gong drum.
I love Paul's drumming with Slayer. I haven't really been into their albums...

Re: The social stigma attached to Metal...

Totally agreed. Metal is who you are, what you like and what you play -- not a fashion statement. Unfortunately, there have always been the bands that consider image as important as the music they...

Re: VIntage Ludwig Drums

One tip you might want to try is tuning your floor tom where you want it, and going up in toms from there... in this case, to the 14". I've found if I start tuning the smaller drums first, by the...

Re: Felt strips - where do you put yours?

I would recommend a felt strip on the batter side only... Especially if you're going for that Bonham sound. I have a Coated Emperor batter and Coated Ambassador reso, and I only muffle the batter....

Re: New Ludwig rail consolette anyone?

The Steve Maxwell mount is great but will not fit a 26" bass drum. It's designed more for 18"-22" bass drums. The angles of the shell and mount will not match.

Re: I'm getting a Ludwig (Bonham) Maple Kit . . .

I have a Classic Maple kit in the Bonham configuration. I would recommend tuning higher than you might expect you need to, the resonant head a minor 3rd higher than the batter, and do not use "JAW"...

Re: 26"x14" Legacy Classic bass drum tuning?

Trust me, tune the reso higher. You can play around with it some, but I would recommend on a big drum following this method. It helps with projection. If you don't pitch it up enough, a drum of that...

Re: Snappy comebacks and other barbs for drummers

If you get backed into a corner, and you're feeling completely ridiculed, you could always try the Joe Pesci method from Goodfellas and shoot them in the foot....
