Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

I would think heel-heel / toe-toe is probably more even and consistant sounding than heel/toe because every first stroke of each "double" is identical to the opposite foot. As the name suggests: heel...

Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

I made a decision to give up on heel toe for speed, and instead incorporate the technique to belt out some unique patterns that would be rather awkward for me using single strokes, combining doubles...

Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

Mesh heads and other e-drum surfaces can be a pain in the ass. You waste energy just trying to control the rebound. There's more to fast double bass than flat out speed. You need to be able to stop...

Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

lefty2, I'm a metal drummer and fan, but honestly except for the really complex time changes and polyrhythms that some of the newer guys are playing, nothing in metal actually blows me away. Kollias...

Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

It probably doesn't help that the song is boring and just awful and that guitar tone makes me want to pull my eyes out through my ears (or something).

Nothing George did would sound good in that...

Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

The footwork I use at high speed isn't the same as when playing slower. When not "engaged" in fast double bass I rest my foot on the pedal the same way George Kollias does, with enough spring tension...

Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

The number of musicians doing this vs the number of videos showing how to do it seems sadly disproportionate.

Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

Right, hold on . . . . . .

(rushes off to look up "dialectic".)

And a small one, so just read it as it was intended and in context and you'll be fine.

Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

Don't try so hard to be offended. In the analogy I was merely refering to those who use falsetto to hit notes they SHOULD be hitting with their normal range. For example ME trying to sing tenor.

Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

Jeff that's a great point about the live sound, very true. Just to clarify I hope I didn't sound like I was suggesting you don't need triggers with proper technique, I was just pointing out that...

Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

Once you can play those speeds (correctly with power) you realize 220 or 240 is not as fast as you may have once thought.

It's a tragedy that too many "speedsters" rushed to achieve those speeds...
