Re: Soldering snare wires

Just had a clever idea, you could get a cheap pocket comb to hold the wires secure, nip the ends with a beefy set of wire cutters then remove the old solder from the end piece and re-secure with JB...

Re: Ever had a band or genre of music that you shouldn't like...but you do?

Lana Del Ray. I don't care for her voice and her weird Indie, Millennial wristcutter tunes but DAMN her songs are catchy. I even learned one on guitar and jokingly tell my wife that I'm going to...

Re: State your unpopular drumming opinions

I'll take that a step further Earl Palmer may be one of the greatest, as in most influential, drummers of all time and it is a crime how overlooked he is.

Boutique drums are vanity toys for...

Re: Probably getting my kick drum cut down - what size?

I'd go 20x14, Classic size.

If anything, it'll increase your resale value on that kit. Those "beer can" kicks were a passing trend that I absolutely hated. Slicing that baby down to a classic...

Re: Opinion : Is this a strange combination ?

Five'll get you ten Magnus from Wallopus can recreate that finish.

Either way, it doesn't look bad.

Re: The ubiquitous LM400

I would look into a vintage or vintage style wood snare with a thin shell and re-rings.

I know it's not what you want to hear but most of that is going to be in your hands. When I had to play...

Re: Is it just me?

If there is music playing or something that will make my snare wires buzz then I'll drop the throw off. I guess I'm just polite like that.

However, I always loosen my HH clutch when I get up from...

Re: What are your favorite earplugs?

I have been learning to play with earplugs, the volume is a little too much for me with the rock bands I have been playing in.

I bought some Hearos and I'm really not happy with them, can't hear...

Re: Are there simple things you struggle with even though you've been playing a while?

What is a closed double stroke roll to you? From my understanding, an open roll is doubles and a closed roll is a press/buzz roll.

What really helped clean up my doubles was practicing Chapin's...

Re: I have Cubital Tunnel... what worked best for you guys?

I think I know who gave you that idea! Did you have any trouble using these with trad grip, or was it just your R hand?

Re: Anyone regret having your drum cut down?

I have had 2 bass drums cut down and never regretted it.

-A 24x17" Yamaha Stage Custom cut down to a 14" depth. Still have it.
-A 20X18 Drumcraft cut down to a 14" depth. Ended up trading that...

Re: Rogers Dynasonic Snare Frame... How Does It Work?

Go for it! You can find them on Sweetwater or direct through Big Bang, plus they come with wires. Really a much different beast with the wires installed.

Re: Grip and finger length

Same with Steve Jordan, he's so far back on the stick I just don't know if he can play doubles. He sure can groove though.

Re: Grip and finger length

I admire that old school view of that the old cats used to teach with. When it came time to find a new teacher I wanted one of those "correct way" guys. I realize a rigid approach like that may not...

Re: The Snare Wires General Info Thread

I have been using Puresounds for years. Either Blasters or Concert 12 strand.

In a bout of cheapness/curiosity, I ordered a set of the cheap Gibraltar wires. Going to AB them with some Puresounds...

Re: Help a Dad out buying used set for son.

Reading through this thread, I hope my daughter takes up the drums. It would be so much fun to teach her the ins and outs of gear hunting and assemble a kit for her as she grew up.

Re: DW Snare Drums?

I am one of those players. I have a lot of very nice gear, most of it vintage and I'm not ashamed of my cheapness. The hunt for deals on used gear is my hobby. I like scouring pawn shops and used...

Re: Homemade cymbal mount when cruising the pawn shops...

Brilliant!!

Going to make myself one next time I'm at the Ace hardware. What size of eye-bolt did you get?

I love pawn shops, most of the nicer gear I have was scored from a pawnshop around...

Re: I hate that Song!!

I have still not learned "Immigrant Song" correctly. I can hack my way through it with doubles but I'm not playing it right.

Re: Dixieland

Never played Dixieland Jazz (or Trad jazz) but I was heavily influenced by it when I started playing. Started a 3 piece band with piano, drums and horns, ended up being more of a Cabaret-Punk thing...

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

I think people just thought they looked cool. Personally I hated them but I'm kind of a grumpy old man when it comes to new drum trends, don't let those 16" hats fool you.

I thought I remembered...

Re: I need your advice please

I recently drilled an 80's Ludwig rack tom for leg brackets. I just mocked it up to where middle point of the mount was on the end of the lug, that would be the end of the lug that pointed inward...

Re: Bo's last name

When I first joined, I just thought it was "Elder" and my mind would just see that every time he posted his new kit in the wrong section.

I'm embarrassed to say I just recently noticed its Eder....

Re: I don't understand why people close mic

Pardon the dumb question, audio engineering is more my better half's bag...

The natural sound of the kit and the room (plus the cymbals) is the overhead's mic's job isn't it? Or are they more to...
