Yamaha Live Custom - New Finishes?

Does anyone know if Yamaha is planning to offer new finishes any time soon for the Live Custom kits? Nice-sounding drums, but the finishes not too diverse or imaginative.

Dixon Artisan Drum Kits

Just watched the Vic Firth video of Gregg Bissonette playing his new Dixon Artisan drum kit:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1eHey3gA6E

I was pleasantly surprised by how good the drums...

Neil Peart Borrows Max Roach?

I've read that Neil Peart has incorporated Max Roach's "The Drum Also Waltzes" into his drum solos during Rush concerts (he apparently first heard the Roach solo via a Bill Bruford performance of...

Re: DW Performace or C&C

No "cons," really, unless the kit is poorly made. I haven't heard of any complaints about the Way kits. But sometimes imported kits have poor craftsmanship--people have experienced these flaws on...

Re: Nylon vs. Chrome Tension Rod Washers

The ABS washers that Les recommends are made out of rubber, is that correct? I researched them a bit and the ABS co. site said they use rubber, so I'm assuming that this makes them resistant to...

Re: Popcorn porn :)

Beautiful drum, Andy! I like Zebrawood snares--I've heard an old Gregg Gaylord stave one and a Sakae ply one, and both had awesome tone and a dry-ish articulation. Yours looks awesome with those...

Re: Hannah Ford and Prince

Good points, James. The entertainer factor is important too.

Your post reminds me of what Gene Simmons told Terri Gross during a Fresh Air interview years ago: "I didn't want to be in a band, I...

Re: New Crush Drum kit

Awesome post, Gene, and great-looking drums. Welcome to the forum--it is a great resource. Enjoy the new kit!

Re: Hannah Ford and Prince

I think D. April's assessment of Hannah Ford is spot on. It's great that she's scored this gig, for after all her dad has made a career out of her--of trying to promote her no matter what. If you...

Re: DW Performace or C&C

Well, the George Way drum kits are outsourced/imported too. They are not true Dunnett kits (hence the price difference). I'm assuming Ronn may check on the kits before they are distributed, but who...

Re: Walnut, Birch, Heads, Tuning, Sound

Well, you can compare the walnut sound of the Ddrums to Dunnett's George Way Walnut bop kit:

http://youtu.be/4fbbniJoZwQ

Same sizes as the Ddrum Speakeasy, though this kit is entirely walnut...

Re: Snare Choice for Punk Gig

I played a gig with Alice Bag (from the original Bags punk band of the late 1970s in LA). I used the Hakim snare and it was great: tight and snappy and mixed well with the guitar and bass.

Cheers.

Snare Choice for Punk Gig

I have a gig coming up for old school punk (X-ray Specs, The Bags, etc.) and British glam rock (Bowie's Ziggy stuff). Any objects to using a Pearl Omar Hakim 5x13 mahogany snare? I've been using...

Re: Tama Starclassic MIJ Back!

Yes, that's what I thought too, but when, out of curiosity, I tested this theory at Dale's Drum Shop back in May (a big Tama dealer), they said the MIJs were not available--all SCs were made in...

Re: New Gretsch 3 ply Broadkaster line

So, it's basically a mega thin Brooklyn kit. I thought the previous Broadkasters had Jasper shells? Not sure how good these kits will sound; the Brooklyn kits really lose their definition in the mix...

Tama Starclassic MIJ Back!

I don't know if this news has been announced already, but I just noticed that Drum Center New Hampshire is now offering Tama Starclassic Maple kits made in Japan. According to Shane's note on the...

Re: Which is/was heavier - Sonor Designer or Yamaha RC?

Better weight comparison would be between Yamaha Maple Customs and Sonor Designers. Both of those kits were quite heavy. The MC floor toms and bass drums were monstrously heavy.

Re: Pearl Crystal Beat Drums

Still, not a bad price for seamless acrylic shells and Pearl's rep for QC.

DW is supposed to be debuting an acrylic kit, too, right?

Re: Pearl Crystal Beat Drums

According to the Pearl July 2014 Price List, the 3pc (20/14/12) Crystal Beat will go for $1499, so probably $999 street price. The 4pc (22/16/10/12) runs $1799, so figure $1199 street (that's with...

Re: The best kits we've ever made - Honest Capture videos!

Very nice work, Andy. The Origin kits sound fantastic. The In-tense walnut was a beast! I watched the drum battle video with Yolanda, and the middle kit--the In-tense set--was burly deep beyond...

Re: Little Jazz Drumset

Tama Silverstar jazz setup (birch shells) is a great option, or you could get a Mapex Mydentity maple kit 18/14/12 for probably $700-ish. You could even get a 14x16 floor with the Mapex Mydentity,...

Re: Tama Silverstar Maple Limited Edition

I would cast some healthy doubt on the notion that Silverstar maple shells are the same as Starclassic shells. SC Maple shells used to be North American (Canadian) maple and perhaps still are; the...

Re: Allegra Big Baby...

So, would the tone have more richness if the shell is thicker?

I've talked to a professional gigging drummer in the Boston area who plays Eames Drums, and he uses 9-ply/9mm tom shells and feels...
