Re: cruise ship drumming?

When I was in my 20's I did the Costa Riviera out of Vancouver to the Inside Passage of Alaska. What a great time.

It was a learning experience for me as I had to learn to play very quiet. But as...

Other'n that I think there's really not much else I've done. :D

Re: Would you notice quantized drumming in a video?

Who knows anymore, right?

I do know this- Last year I did a session for a famous LA producer who is responsible for some of the stuff that hits the airwaves and when I heard the finished product,...

Re: 10 prescriptions for productive practice

When I practice violin I can never get the matches to light. So I'm switching to Viola, I hear they burn a little longer. <g>

Re: My bizarre, ego-destroying experience

LOL, yeah I realized that AFTER I posted! And you're right, I got too hung up on one facet of the argument.

And with that I humbly apologize for my oversight in weighing what really went down. ...

Re: How do drummers get sponsored?

So much has been written on the subject already but here's the big stuff- an "Endorsement" by a company is a loosely structured business arrangement between an artist and that company.

The...

Re: playing to loops and drumless recordings vs jamming

Well one is a medium that you can press stop, play/rewind/fast forward, etc and the other is a group of people entraining their minds.

Two different horses altogether. You should be proficient in...

Re: My bizarre, ego-destroying experience

And you'll carry that with you for the rest of your life too. That's a great realization. The biggest problem with the entire world, nevermind merely the drums.... is ego. Ego is the great destroyer....

Re: Unable to use fills I've been practicing for hours in my band

Exactly!

And a lot of times it's the stuff that you don't remember playing...and upon listening back you ask yourself "what the hell did I just play there? Sounds great but now, I gotta learn how...

Re: Unable to use fills I've been practicing for hours in my band

So these fills... can you do them when you're by yourself? Yeah? OK. Check this out.

When you do a fill or play a beat by yourself, it's like having a plank of wood on the floor. You can dance...

Re: DW Maple/Mahogany Collectors shells.

My friend Tony Braunagel has a kit 10" 12" 14" 16" 23"(!?) kick.

Here's my kid and Tony playing on them....

Re: Here is a question I haven't seen asked on here

Re: Dave Dicenso's - Universal Rhythms book - Help needed

Wow, one week huh. It took me ten solid years to get comfortable with alternating flams on the drumkit.

Re: Here is a question I haven't seen asked on here

Re: Here is a question I haven't seen asked on here

If you want it played I can play it. Rhythm is simply points on a line infused with a flavor.

Once you get to the point where you see it like that then it's easy to step into the cadence of 7/8...
