Ahh, I see. Is it for marimba? Maybe out of a book or collection?

I hope it's at least a fun piece, because I think a lot of the "harder" pieces just aren't very fun!

I would have to agree, that an orchestral snare drum HAS to be DRY! The more dry, the better.. and it has to be incredibly articulate...

as other people have said, what you're really looking for is an abundance of attack and no sustain. you'll get a papery sound out of the bass by using a harder beater and dampening your reso head....

i woul suggest a pdp mx... i have one and it sounds really good.. i get compliments on it all the time.. and it's in a similar price range.. i've NEVER had a good experience with a gretsch..

it's pretty much a collector's snare... i wouldn't buy it just to play...

maybe if i were rich and wanted to show off something pretty i would buy it...

but you can get snares just as good...
