Re: Kickport on 16" BD

Never tried one on anything that small, but I do have a kickport on my 20" bass drum and love it. Considering the relatively small head area of a 16" kick, perhaps it makes sense to try their FX2...

Re: 1975 - guess the drummer :)

Vinnie? The 7/8 groove and open hi hat sound (reminiscent of Joe's Garage/Keep It Greasy) makes me think so.

Re: Laptop/backing cutting out live

Just out of curiosity, have you tried using a different media player such as QuickTime or iTunes? I'm a little biased against Microsoft, so somewhere deep inside me I feel it has something to do with...

Robotic Prosthesis Turns Drummer into a Three-Armed Cyborg

I just stumbled across this article, which I thought was very interesting. In short, Georgia Tech created an artificial limb that can be attached to amputees, which contains motors that power two...

Re: Less isn't always more?

On thing about "busy" drumming that hasn't been touched on yet is the volume of your playing. First, check out this video featuring Antonio Sanchez:

Re: Flying with a snare

I've flown with a snare before. You don't need to worry about loosening the heads, that is unless you want to whip it out during the flight and impress everyone with your really fat tone. (And by...

Re: Drum rehearsal rooms in LA

Three places I've been to are AMP in North Hollywood (amprehearsal.com), West LA Studio Services (westlastudios.com) on the west side, and Musician's Choice in Culver City...

Re: New Member seeking advice Brooklyn or New Classic

Both kits are great, but I'll make this easy for you. Brooklyn, hands down. Don't even think twice about it.

Re: Drummer and Musician apps for Iphone or Android

I can't believe no one's mentioned Jammit, which lets you purchase 1000s of songs minus the drums (or minus guitar, bass, keyboards or vocals, whichever you prefer). The cool thing about this is...

Re: Proof other musicians don't care how drums sound.

In retrospect, I totally wish that I had done just that. It wasn't even a band I was auditioning for, just one guy. Should've gotten right out of there the second he told me not to use any of my gear.

Re: Proof other musicians don't care how drums sound.

About 12 years ago I auditioned for this guy who had me come over to his house and insisted that I play on his kit as-is, even though I brought my snare, cymbals and a pedal. The snare had to be the...

Re: Take the Drummerworld QUIZ!

Nice one. Now I wonder if there are more "twins" hidden somewhere in the Top 500. Anyone care to look?

And Henri, nice find on Bernhard. Where'd you dig that one up?

Re: Take the Drummerworld QUIZ!

Since this quiz seems to be wrapping up, the other drummer (that no one guessed) who appears twice in the Top 500 list is Jack DeJohnette. Thanks for playing :)

Re: Take the Drummerworld QUIZ!

Yes, at least 5 drummers appear twice, as 4 have been identified yet there's at least one more I know of that no one's come up with. Also, no one's correctly guessed questions 4 or 6. Any more takers?

Re: Take the Drummerworld QUIZ!

Yes, I suppose there are four. I never noticed that Airto or "Bermuda" were listed twice, but now I see that. But there's still one more that I've noticed, and no one's guessed it yet.

Here's who...

4) the first issue of Modern Drummer NOT to feature a drummer on its cover had what instead? (be...

Re: Take the Drummerworld QUIZ!

So questions 1, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 10 have been answered correctly. That leaves:

2) Zildjian in Turkish roughly translates to _________.

- While "cymbal smith" is correct, there's more to the...

2) yes, sort of. You could be more specific here.
3) yes it's a power tom, but I'm looking for something more specific.
5) wrong

Take the Drummerworld QUIZ!

Test your knowledge (or try your patience) with this short but tough quiz.

1) Vinnie Colaiuta’s full name is mentioned in the lyric of a song. What song is that?

2) Zildjian in Turkish roughly...

Re: What does your kit say about your "drum nerdiness"?

This is exactly what I had in mind when I came up with this quiz. Your name doesn't happen to be Sheldon, does it?

Re: Drum Nerdines... getting it the way you want, or excessive customizing?

No worries, mate! It's funny, I thought of the idea behind my quiz while watching a recent Styx concert on Palladia (if you don't know what Palladia is, it's an all-music channel that shows mostly...

Re: Floor Toms - 14" vs 16" - Yamaha Players?

Definitely get the 16 if you're going to have just one floor tom. That is, unless you play jazz, in which case the 14 is a no brainer. Or get both since they have the matching one in stock. Then you...
