I had a Chad Smith sig snare for atleat 4 years, sold it couple of months ago, but as much as I loved it I often found that I got easily bored with the sound and could only get one sound out of it...

Well luckily for me the sizes are practically the same as my current kit!

Sizes are..

24x20 undrilled bass drum
12x9 tom
14x12 floor tom
16x14 floor tom

100% true, from the bands I listen to Flea and Chad from RHCP are the best of example of the connectivity between the bass and drums.

It depends really sometimes you get bands which they jam together and feed off each other and they're some bands which for example the guitarist and singer write the song then tell you(the drummer)...
