Re: Ringo Starr... Good or bad?

I'm biased -- I LOVE Ringo and Charlie (probably my #1 and 2 in that order)...

depends on what you like: a chops monster OR a drummer that simply makes the music 'feel' good..

One thing you...

I would never ask to 'take a gig back' no matter what the circumstances...

BUT, if I was in your shoes subbing for a band and their regular guy (for whatever reason) was available and wanted to...

Re: 20x14 Bass drum for hardcore playing - my point!

I have a Sonor Safari (16x16 kick) that I own mainly for really small venues/especially low volume situations etc... and it works well in those scenarios.

I've used it sparingly in larger venues...

Re: What's the worst kit you've had to play on?

Re: What's the worst kit you've had to play on?

Not necessarily worse - but the worst I've had to deal with... a few years ago my band opened up for a National blues act... the drummer had a beat to hell, 60's Ludwig champagne sparkle 5pc kit...

absolutely a technique issue... just because you studied with someone and know to stay relaxed etc, etc... doesn't prevent you from falling back into bad habits...

sounds like you're gripping...

Re: Do drummers lose points for disassembling the moment the show is done?

I usually start tearing down within a few min's after we're done (unless another band is following - in which case I'll hustle my stuff off stage as quick as possible).

However, after this...

Re: 16 bar blues v 12 bar blues

You can get yourself in trouble if you're counting -- especially with older/traditional blues cats -- you're better off watching/listening/following the singer and or soloist... after playing blues...

Re: Let's talk soloing, again.

Good thread Larry -- I don't consider myself a great soloist by any stretch of the imagination, never particularly liked taking solos... but as you know, it's part of the deal so I suck it up.

The...

Re: So how many different snares do you use on a gig?

Just one - but always with a spare handy...

interestingly enough, I've broken a handful of snare heads (even snare side blow-outs) early on -- ever since I've started bringing a spare, no...
