Re: Unusual venue

You going to bring any baffles or anything to kill some of the sound bouncing?

Have you tried turning it off and then back on again?

Re: Stolen Gear

Completely disgusting to me that people can arrive at the end of a logic chain where it's okay for them to take things people earned, hurt people to get what they want, or disregard those around them...

Re: Cool breathing trick

Don't do it, guys. I just tried and it's a trick. You'll end up vomiting all the bacardi onto the floor and flailing around like a lush.

Re: Musician vs Artist

"Visual art is how we decorate space - Musical art is how we decorate time."

-Paraphrased from some famous quote.

Re: Ever have a drumming dream?

That's almost exactly like mine! In mine, my foot was like un-responsive lead weight or something and I was playing a sold out stadium with the foos!

Re: Ever have a drumming dream?

I know for fact you would rock the **** outta those coffee tables. No sweat. Being honest, I feel like I would have a lot of fun on a "kit" like that.

Re: 16th notes on Hi Hat

You've never been stuck playing some repetitive intro or first verse to a song while the singer talks to the audience for 10 minutes prior to starting the song?

Lucky!

Re: Fast doubles for multiple measures

16ths at 200 is a pretty good clip. All I can say is stay as relaxed as you can without losing the control you need. How do you play them? Mostly finger control?

Re: Ever have a drumming dream?

I want to say I've told this here before but I do remember one drumming nightmare I had.

It was a really cool dream to start. Somehow I was hanging out with the foo fighters, and we got to...

Re: 16th notes on Hi Hat

Well, no. My "moeller theory" doesn't exist as I've been saying all along. I use the term "whip stroke" because "moeller" can mean too many different things and sometimes people even use to to...

Re: Gone Too Soon

This feels like a loss because it is. For us, for family and anyone else who shared experiences with Mitch.

Sad.

Re: 16th notes on Hi Hat

Sure he does. Jojo has studied technique a fair amount you might say. Thing is, not all pump-type motions used in drumming are "moeller", and not everyone will even use that term. Jojo will use...

Re: 16th notes on Hi Hat

Sorry dude, no. Not even close. My entire point is that there's tons of confusion on the issue and that's caused mostly by everyone using different definitions. When you look at the people who...

Re: Drumsticks and carry on luggage

So I can't bring a 4 oz bottle of water or tiny swiss army, but sure, go on ahead with your convenient wood dowels that tend to snap into sharp stakes on the grain quite easily.

Security theater. ...

Re: 16th notes on Hi Hat

So when I say whip motion, that means as in visualizing a bull-whip, you whip back past the balance point and then generate speed and power by suddenly pulling in the other direction. The...

Re: 16th notes on Hi Hat

I'm not sure what speed has to do with it specifically. The faster you go, the less applicable any sort of whip motion is. Slower tempos where you actually could use a whip motion, usually you...

Re: 16th notes on Hi Hat

I'm sorry, buddy. You're still a little confused on the term I think. Your own example video described a "low moeller" as being like an 8 to 12 inch arc.

Honestly, you don't want to focus on...

Re: 16th notes on Hi Hat

This is ironic, given your username. I think we just define things a little differently here and I'll explain where I draw the line.

Moeller is an arcing whip with intentional looseness to...

Re: 16th notes on Hi Hat

I find the same. A few times people have told me it's incorrect and less efficient, but it's a habit I never really dropped when I'm not in front of a teacher. It seems comfortable when you're...

Re: 16th notes on Hi Hat

You'd rather go pull someone else's statement from an unrelated thread than just admit you were wrong and acknowledge that you re-enforced my point with every post?

No skin off my nose. My only...

Re: 16th notes on Hi Hat

I did no such thing. I don't even tend to use the term at all, let alone call myself an expert. I utilize whip strokes when it makes sense, and I manage to do it without obsessing about some dude's...

Re: 16th notes on Hi Hat

He's demonstrating my points perfectly. He's playing correct moeller in this video raising the stick up, whipping it down and also demonstrating how that whip can generate "free" notes as he says. ...

Re: 16th notes on Hi Hat

Note that this is not directed at any one poster or post but; please stop with the automatic calls for "moeller" whenever someone talks about technique on the forum in any capacity.

It's not an...

Re: HITTING Sticks together Accidentally ?

Post a video of your playing so we can tell if there's a setup or sitting issue.

Otherwise, it's just a matter of practice.
