Re: Decided to try this new look!

Could you buy, or have you got spare, a pair of legs that you could take the rubber feet off, insert the legs ďupside downĒ into the leg blocks and cut the legs to the correct length? Iím thinking...

Re: Influencing people close to you with music

I wasnít drumming when I met my wife so after 14 years together it came as a bit of a shock when I got myself a kit and joined a band. 12 years later she still has very little interest in live music...

Re: What killed off Slingerland?

Was the lad sat behind John Bonham a Roadie whoís seen and heard it all, or was it someone who genuine didnít realise how lucky he was to be sat next to John Bonham in full flight?

Re: Poor Mapex

Re: the Mapex name, Iíve held off from giving this contribution because Iíve been looking for, and failing to find, the article I learned it from so I might be attributing the tale to the wrong...

Re: Our dance band was hired as background music

Several years ago I came to the conclusion that I donít enjoy simply playing drums per se, I enjoy playing gigs and I donít like to feel unappreciated.
I enjoy rehearsing with a new band, itís all...

Re: So....how long should it take to learn....

Iíve just listened to it for the first time. Itís not a simpleish kick and snare pattern at all. I reckon you could blag it and get away with it but to do it properly 100% of the time will take some...

Re: Our dance band was hired as background music

My band has a gig that broadly fits this description.
Itís at a Working Menís Club in the North East Of England.
We arrive at around 10.45 am on a Sunday morning and are set up and ready to play at...

Re: Why Modern Pop Music Is So Awful To Some!!!

When I was growing up at the tail end of the 70s and into the early 80s I was heavily into Rock and Heavy Metal. Pop music didnít have guitar solos, drums as a feature or searing vocal delivery....

Re: How did they tune in the 17th century

Which is the exact issue my stringed colleagues are having to contend with when they'r working on these songs in their own time.
The usual answer to the problem is, "do the If You Want Blood...

Re: Shine Drums

A thread back from the dead.
I've just seen a used Shine kit in black lacquer. 12", 14"ft, 16"ft and 22" bass drum. A cursory glance and it looks to be very clean, tidy and unmarked.
The thing is I...

Re: How did they tune in the 17th century

Similiar to the way AC/DC tuned their instruments on their earlier albums, most notably Let There Be Rock!

Re: The gig that you turned down, and it's a good thing you did!

Iíd never heard the song before so I checked it on YouTube. Thank heaven it was pre internet and pre VCR days otherwise the audience might have asked why the drummer wasnít singing the lead vocal as...

Re: Poor Mapex

This reminds me of an experience I had about a dozen years ago when I was buying my first kit after an extensive period of inactivity. The internet, forums etc. were all new to me and I was using...

Re: Too Much 2 & 4

Lovely playing :-)
My opinions, for what they’re worth, are first of all that song isn’t a song that needs the drummer to play on the 2 and 4. It's got a “funk” feel that you didn’t just capture but...

Re: Drumming & Singing Simultaneously

I'm the second best singer in both of the bands I'm in, tending towards high harmonies and falsetto, but I also sing lead on bits of songs including one extended song that allows the singer to do the...

Re: Which do you enjoy most: Playing by yourself, jamming with others, or playing live?

For me itís playing to an audience, the caveat being that the audience enjoy the show and show their appreciation. Even a small group of people that I can focus on who are smiling and getting into it...

Re: Asama drums

Iíve never heard of them but the Paiste 2002 cymbals alone are probably worth whatever you paid for them. In addition to that, 24Ē bass drums arenít Ďthatí commonplace so all in all thatís a nice...

Re: Guess what I left at home?!

Reading this has brought back some memories and given me some ideas.

Re: Next Stage Custom?

I've just had a quick look using my phone. The Superstar Classic appears to have triple flange hoops, the Superstar Maple Hyperdrive does indeed have cast hoops.
A quick look on Thomman at list...

Re: Drinking beer at a gig

Chance would be a fine thing!!
Saturday's gig saw us setting up in 27c heat (that was outside, inside was warmer) which is extremely unusual for NE England. The pub advertised a fine selection of...
