Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

He's one of my favorites. I think "Chaos Theory" might be the only instance where I bought I video game because of who was doing the soundtrack.

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

Ah, you were referring to the creation of the music itself. I misunderstood.

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

That kind of still goes back to the separation between producers and DJs.

An electronic music show can be a full fledged on-the-fly reproduction of a track being made, with the original stems...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

I'm on your side of the camp in this thread, but Skrillex really isnt a very good example to use. He's more in the camp of a "knob turner" who already has his skeletons laid out in Ableton. His sets...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

The term "DJ" has now had multiple meanings longer than it had the one meaning you ascribe to it.

People were using reel to reel machines in New York and Kingston clubs to blend tracks on a...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

You're also sort of getting definitions crossed. Radio DJs are nothing like wedding DJs, who are nothing like the traditional idea of an electronic music DJ. The biggest difference is that the...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

It depends If the DJs rig is a hybrid turntable/CDJ setup with control tone discs where the laptop is essentially just the storage and input interpreting medium, the DJ can always throw some analog...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

You don't know me, but I fit into that category. I have a few friends who are both better DJs and better musicians on their respective instruments than me.

Also, one needs to be able to...

Re: How do you feel about buying used records?

I suppose since no one buys new CDs anymore, the question isn't as controversial as it once was.

But I do remember going through 2, sometimes copies of many albums because of CDs poor durability....

Re: How To Set-Up Drum Set??

If the rack is not cost effective, or you're like me and just dont like the look of one, I can already visualize how I'd set that kit up.

The two left crashes and the right crash and china could...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

+1

I've been seeing a fair bit of people who have endorsement deals making this exact mistake on their webpages, social media, ect.

I'm actually playing with such a person in a few weeks. How...

Re: Paiste 2002, B8 but why do they sound so good?

I'm probably seconding or thirding someone here: It's because B8 is no better or worse an alloy than B20 or B15 or anything else. It really just comes down to the inherent tonal quality of increased...

Re: Poll: do you double bass?

I was a 6 in the first part of my playing career in death metal and punk bands.

If there was an option for "I use it a bit, but it's not heavily necessary" I'd fit into that now.

Post your good experiences with manufacturers' service here

I figure there's a whole bunch of threads where we talk about bad experiences when equipment fails, things aren't right, or we can't get the proper help to remedy a situation.

Let's do the...

Re: NFL Asks Musicians for Money to Play Super Bowl Read more: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne

While that sounds like a perfect opportunity for a band with "f-you" dollars and some semblance of the rebellion of their past years to buck the system, the reality is the NFL will still hold a solid...

I used to set my Mapex 3x13 Brass snare off to the left of the hi hat when I was playing in a faster paced band with some odd drum and bass parts here and there.

I don't really have a need for a...

Re: Do You Like Metal Snares?

My friend had a 5" deep version of the brass free floater. Great drum with a pretty wide tuning range.

Re: Do You Like Metal Snares?

I've probably played a metal shell snare 90% of my time behind the kit. Nothing against maples, birches, or acrylics. They just dont ever seem to give me the exact attack I want to hear.

Used a...

Left hand triplet fluidity

I realize there's probably a thousand threads here about "developing left hand speed" or something to that effect. I'm looking for advice on something more specific though.

For a right hander...
