Re: Ok, so was this a "thing" at one time or am I crazy? (Cymbal stack question)

Mark Zonder and Eric Singer come to mind as drummers who have done this.

Though I'm sure many others as well.

Re: I hate that Song!!

That makes more sense than the way they tried to teach at PIT way back when, when we told it was in 11/8 or something wacky like that.

Re: Advice on value of monster vintage Pearl kit

The problem with pricing a kit like that is it's so unique, there is no market to judge it against.

Value is simply in the eye of the beholder.

Not many drummers are going to want a kit like...

Re: Jazz band playing to a metronome

Agreed 1000%

Everyone can think they have a good sense of time, but not everyone's sense of time is the SAME time.

Re: Pre-planned drum fills??

Most every real band I've been in, every fill was (eventually) planned and played the same way (nearly) every time.

Singers and guitar players get to use hearing certain cues. They become part of...

Re: Maybe I'm done compensating for my height ;)

You realize you have bought and parted with more drum kits in the last 10 years than everyone reading this combined, right?

Re: Why is jazz drumming still so dominant?

How is it dominate?

I wouldn't say it's dominate.

Re: These posts I see on Craigslist

Well, there are two different questions as work

First: Why no rehearsals: Usually due to lack of time.
The gig is tomorrow and the regular or 1st choice, drummer:
broke his...

Re: ANYONE WOOF???

It is kind of funny we saw Woofer's on every pro DW kit some years back, and now, not so much.

Re: These posts I see on Craigslist

Yes.

Professionals who get paid for every gig.

Usually for cover bands or bands playing standards.

If a drummer knows enough covers, it's entirely possible.

I used to do gigs like...

Re: Frustrated Yamaha Live Custom Owner

I was surprised the Live Custom was discontinued so quickly.

It hadn't been around that long.

So I see why some would be frustrated or mad.

I remember when Premier announced they were...

Re: Top Musicians vs Average Musicians

It's a list of 2018 income, not all time income.

The Stones did not tour extensively in 2018, so they're limited in 2018 income relative to the bands who toured a lot in 2018.

Obviously, if...

Awesome video btw....

I only wish I could have seen them live during that era.

I freaking love their early material.

Re: Top Musicians vs Average Musicians

Well, yes, I'm speaking from the US perspective.

And speaking from someone who bought War in Jr High, and was only one of 2 people in my entire school who knew who U2 was (which does seem odd...

Re: Top Musicians vs Average Musicians

As Bermuda pointed out, you have to take those with a grain of salt, as those numbers are pre-expenses.

The band's take-home pay is but a fraction of that.

And numbers are only for now, not...

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

Some of the things mentioned are hardly "trends" they're an integral part of the history of the drum set.

Re: What is Your Geek Out Drum Thing?

I had to think about this one because my initial response was "all of it".

But after some thought, no, it's shell construction more than anything.

Back when I used to work in drum shops, I...

Re: I praise of the 10 inch tom,..

Not that I'm playing with anyone with it, but right now, my drums are set up with the 10" up front, 14 and 16 ft.

Also experimenting with the 12" on the left side, though I'm not so sure about...

Re: How to get endorced by a simble company's?

This.

Working in drum shops for years, I met many who went from consumers buying gear to suddenly thinking they deserve an endorsement, just because.

And the internet has made it far worse,...

Re: What is the slowest BPM song you enjoy playing

No, not 6 over 4

12 over 4.

4/4 with triplets. = 12 notes.

Just turn on a metronome to 4/4 at 94 BPM.

Then play the song.

Re: What is the slowest BPM song you enjoy playing

No, it's certainly not a waltz.

4/4 with triplets is the same as 12/8.

You could count it either way.

A quick google search of the sheet music shows some places have it written at 6/8,...

Re: What is the slowest BPM song you enjoy playing

There is also the difference between how a song is counted.

If you're playing a half time groove, the song will sound slower than the BPM.

"If You Don't Know Me By Now", a remake by Simply...
