Re: Vinnie Colaiuta research help me!
Well it could be his command of timing, technique and dynamics that makes his style so easily identified. His dynamic control between ghostnotes, regular hits and accents is extraordinarily precise....

Re: Incredible Vinnie Colaiuta Ghostnote Groove
Larry it is quite hard to hear some of the notes on both hihat and snare, but they're there. Headphones certainly help. I would love to hear it played live, I imagine it would almost have the feel of...

Incredible Vinnie Colaiuta Ghostnote Groove
Took me a while but I finally managed to transcribe it...
It's absolutely astonishing the way he plays ghost notes in this groove:

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta clinic Q&A
Here's a clinic he did in Tampa with Tim Landers on bass from 1984:
It's in 8 parts.
Part 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-iXQgJeZco)
Part 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPyIyGGBPbU)...

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta clinic Q&A
I think you make a fairly common point.
For me it's about the expression. If someone knows 100 words and they decide to write a story it could be the greatest story ever written to many people. If...

Re: Buddy out of his comfort zone?
It sounded to me like the band was not playing like Rich's own band. The bass player in the BR band was always right with buddy. This guy in the clip is more relaxed and wasn't following Buddy in...

Re: Playing with a backbeat in 5
Thanks. Just had a listen to the above song. It sounds like a bar of 7/4 and 2 bars of 4/4 to create a kind of 15/4. The pulse is always based around a quarter note of 4/16ths though. I'm curious to...

Re: Playing with a backbeat in 5
I mean 5/16, 10/16, 15/16 or 20/15 etc where the 16ths are grouped in 5's to create the pulse. Instead of playing 16ths in groups of 4, playing them as groups of 5, if ye get me...

Playing with a backbeat in 5
Does anyone know of any songs with the pulse split up as groups of 5x16th notes? 10/16 15/16 or 20/16 etc. I know some of Zappa's was in 5 but generally they were more of a 5/8 feel or other times...
