Re: Why I don't play V-Drums
I wonder if there are these same conversations on boards about electric guitars, electric wind instruments, electric violins, electric sitars, etc. etc.

Re: Why I don't play V-Drums
I do notice a lot of ekit hate around here. I don't play an ekit, but I think they are legit and just as good as acoustic sets. I have sat in behind them - some better than others - and they have...

Re: Why I don't play V-Drums
People fear drummers and their potential to destroy the music. So they have invented ways of controlling, leashing and containing them. Electronic drums are one way. Confining the drummer to a clear...

Re: Drum finishes - a natural debate
To clarify, I'm not talking about wrapping stave shells with veneers. I'm talking about wrapping stave shells with plastic-based wraps.
Why wrap a stave drum? For all the same reasons you might...

Re: Drum finishes - a natural debate
Intuitively, I understand what you are saying. But no one can really be sure, because no one has ever wrapped a stave drum and I don't think it's completely due to shirnkage issues. A harder, denser...

Re: Ridiculously oversized kits
Wind chimes are the double pedals of the percussion world: Not suitable for many genres, bad 1980s associations, used way too much and highly fretted over and sought-after.

Re: Drum finishes - a natural debate
I think that's just supposition. I don't know of anyone who has ever actually wrapped a stave kit and tested this out. To my knowledge, no one has ever wrapped a stave drum. All drums vibrate a great...

Re: Drum finishes - a natural debate
Excellent point. Plywood isn't wood, any more than cornbread is still corn. Like particle board and OSB, plywood is a composite wood product. So putting a wrap over a natural finish really shouldn't...

Re: Drum finishes - a natural debate
Natural finishes are very popular - see this thread (http://drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73574)for lots of natural finish love.
Personally, I think tobacco fades and flames are way...

Re: Ridiculously oversized kits
You're a true professional and likely always approach every gig as a professional, because there are certain expectations of the musicians there.
What if it was just some fellows playing for free...

Re: Cocktail drums and the drummers' height
That's a pretty wild story - funny but it sounds urban mythy.
I get more gigs with my cocktail set than my sit-down set. It's extremely popular with other musicians and audiences because of it's...

Re: Cocktail drums and the drummers' height
All cocktail drums I have seen have standard floor tom legs. You should be able to move the drum down a great deal. I am average height (5-10) and I play with it very high because that's what I like,...

Re: Why not just PLAY drums...
Good points. Also, keep in mind that people have social needs also - some more than others. With advanced communication media, we are combining already-existing social time with music. I think the...

Re: shuffle is hard...
Sounds like you need to practice more! There is no way to play a shuffle with one hand as fast as with two. It takes practice to make it indistinguishable from one hand, but it's a total can-do. I...

Re: shuffle is hard...
For some reason, when having to do 16th notes straight, people use two hands, but when they have to do 16th note shuffles - already much harder than straight notes - they just want to do it with one...

Re: DWI
It tends to make things more fun, but I make more errors and don't sound as good. Playing an instrument is very demanding and you really need all your wits about you to do it well.

Re: Stone Custom Drum Shells
When I read the title, I thought someone was making shells out of stone! Sorry, we see all the neatest stuff here so I'm a bit jaded.
They look like really nice ply shells, but not particularly...
