Re: Drilled or virgin bass drum

Like someone has already said, for me I prefer undrilled most of the time, but on an 18" I do like to have the tom mounted from the bass drum. Admittedly I would prefer a rail mount to a drilled tom...

Re: Gretsch Brooklyn 18x14/18x16 bass drums

Hi guys,

It's been a little while now but thought I'd better mention a couple of things...

Today I ordered my Brooklyn bop in Cream Oyster - stunning!!

Regarding the bass drums, the website...

Re: New Gretsch for 2013!

Am I the only one who isn't massively excited about the new Renown's? I was looking to get the rock shell pack (13 16 24 + 18) in Silver Oyster Pearl, but with the 13 version I'm not so excited! That...

Re: Newb question: Brooklyns or classic bops

I've started a thread last week on that exact question - take a look if you like! It should be "kicking" around somewhere recently (pardon the pun).

I also second the point about not giving the...

Re: Semi-decent pop/rock 3 piece shell pack

Sure, similar thoughts! So far I think the most appealing option would be a set of Ludwig Epic's - may see what deal I can knock up at my local dealer! Good shout on the Stage Customs though!

Re: Semi-decent pop/rock 3 piece shell pack

I'd also say, could do with being fairly rugged! So for example, although I think the Gretsch Catalina Club's are great sounding kits for the price, the Tom mounts for example aren't great and with...

Semi-decent pop/rock 3 piece shell pack

Hi guys,

I've been asked to sort out some drums for my church which is starting a new building so needs a whole new backline setup - including drums. They're after a 3 piece and it's pretty much...

Re: Newb question: Brooklyns or classic bops

I own a New Classic in 10 12 14 16 20, and absolutely adore it. I also own a Catalina Club in 12 14 18, but in fact I'm looking to upgrade that to a Brooklyn in those sizes in the near future. I...

Re: Gretsch Brooklyn 18x14/18x16 bass drums

Nice tidy job you've done there! I agree, I do like the old school style of mounting Tom and ride from the bass drum for jazz. I remember Peter Erskine bigging up that system too!

My only reserve...

Re: Gretsch Brooklyn 18x14/18x16 bass drums

Yeah, I'd rather an old rail style mount to a gaping hole in the top of my bass drum! Would seem a shame! Never been into that. Yeah I'm sure either size is gorgeous! I will have it tuned for jazz or...

Re: Questions for Gretsch Catalina Jazz owners

Good shout on the kit. I got myself a Club Jazz a few months back which I'm going to use until I eventually replace it with a Gretsch Brooklyn in jazz sizes. For head choice, I would stick Remo...

Re: Gretsch Brooklyn 18x14/18x16 bass drums

In all honesty, I probably wouldn't be bothered or have time to send it off somewhere and have a mount fitted! I'm swinging towards the undrilled 14 at the moment. I'm sure with tuning/head...

Re: Gretsch Brooklyn 18x14/18x16 bass drums

They now do a choice of a drilled 18x16 or undrilled 18x14.

Re: Gretsch Brooklyn 18x14/18x16 bass drums

Bet that 22x14 Ludwig is gorgeous! For more commercial sounding drums I do prefer the shallower sizes like that - old school! At the moment the main kick I'm using is my 20x16 New Classic. I'm going...

Re: Gretsch Brooklyn 18x14/18x16 bass drums

Sure, much what I thought! Figured the difference between 2" is minimal, so to be honest I'll probably end up choosing based upon the tom mount or undrilled one!

Gretsch Brooklyn 18x14/18x16 bass drums

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting one of the Gretsch Brooklyn kits in jazz sizes to replace my Catalina Club (12x9,14x14,18x14). My only toss up is whether I go for it with an 18x14 bass drum...
