Re: Playing drums-Creating drum parts

Couldn't have said it better my self, and I would know because I've tried :P

This post sticks with me so much because I have come to the exact same conclusion recently and, as a result, I'm...

Re: Update on bass!

Ya... I just set my metronome to half of 322. That's 161 bpm. I can't even make a buzzing noise that sounds like 32nd notes at this tempo.

Re: Q: Importance of Alternate Sticking on Drumset?

You make some good points that I agree with here. However, I wasn't advocating for people to pull a "mike-mangini" and become 100% ambidextrous. My point was simply that, by saying "well I'm just...

Re: Drummers with Tendonitis, etc.

Again, thanks for the replies, guys. There's some really good advice here, but above all, it helps to know that there are many other people in the same boat as I.

Re: Q: Importance of Alternate Sticking on Drumset?

I think practicing by leading with your weaker hand is pretty important. Yes, drum set is all about economy of motion and sound quality, but it takes a lot of work to get to that point in your...

Re: Josh Freese

Nope, he just played drums on "The Hollow". Everything else is Freese's work as far as I know.

Re: Drummers with Tendonitis, etc.

Thanks a lot guys, both your posts should prove to be extremely helpful.

Zambizzi: it's odd that you found stretching to be so painful/unhelpful. From what I've read so far, stretching is the...

Drummers with Tendonitis, etc.

I'm sure there are a few drummers on this site who've experienced the pains (literally and figuratively) of tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, etc. I'm just wondering how you guys got over your...

Re: double stroke roll technique confusion

There's a thread around here that covers this topic extensively, but I think the gist of it is this:

Derrick Pope's recommendation to make both strokes the same means they should SOUND the same,...

Re: Danny Carey

Which video did you see?

And, listen to "Ticks and Leeches" if you get a chance. That song's a pretty good summary of what Danny Carey is capable of.

Re: Gretsch Catalina maple vs. PDP X7 maple

I've already got the cymbals and hardware.

I'm definitely set on at least a 6 piece, and while I don't NEED the 7th tom, I would certainly put it to good use. I've thought about getting these...

Gretsch Catalina maple vs. PDP X7 maple

Hey guys, I'm looking to upgrade from my current Yamaha YD series kit and I have about $1200 to work with. As of right now I'm torn between the Gretsch catalina maple and the PDP x7 maple. Both look...

Re: Kit practice without hands

I was looking at those but wasn't sure of they'd be any good.

So, things like paradiddles, singles, doubles, etc between my bass drum and hi hat?

Re: 4 way independence?

Well, if you can figure it out in your head, do that. If you can't, try writing it out. I've never felt the need to write anything down when going though 4 way independence exercises. Just go through...

Kit practice without hands

Hey guys, lately I've been having problems with tendonitis in my wrists so I'm giving them a break for a few weeks. This is definitely a bummer, but I think I can take the opportunity to work on my...

Re: Metal drum finishing

If it's too "chromey" looking, then I'd say you could sand away the finish without changing the sound properties at all. At least then it would look "rougher" and little less flashy.

Re: striking crash cymbals...

I think there's two main points to think about regarding crash cymbal technique:

1) As ace76543 clearly illustrated in his wonderful paint portrait, you should try to strike the crash cymbal on...

Re: Wet hands after playing?

That actually makes sense. Any guitar player stupid enough to believe and tell you something like that is most likely playing their guitar entirely incorrectly - hence the arm pain.
