Re: What snare do I have?

Ollie, when you get a chance please post a close up photo of one lug. Hard to tell from the current.

Re: Trying out the Dunnett R4-L strainer

Could be worse there Goon, you could have spent $50 (http://www.drumfactorydirect.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6_104_40&products_id=2559) for a fragile plastic strainer.

I feel like...

Re: LM402 Lust

"Bog standard" Isn't a bog what they call the toilet in your country?

Regular ol' 402 is the standard with Imperial lugs. I do like the look of the tubes though.

Re: LM402 Lust

Dooooo eeeet... I just bought one and I really see what all they hype is about. That classic rock snare sound from all those songs from the 50's-70's (don't care for the 80's) that I love. I really...

Re: Dry heads for ludwig blackrolite acrolite snare?

I'm really not following those of you that are calling the Supra/Acro a ringy snare. I have an Acro and a LM402 Supra, they have a few overtones like any snare would but it is a very dry material.

Re: Beginner, Intermediate, and Pro Kit Definitions

I have always held the line where its a "pro" kit if a professional drummer would realistically gig it. Sure there are the rebels that will play a cheaper kit to make a point but every brand has a...

Re: Trying out the Dunnett R4-L strainer

I would have just bought one to try out and see if I liked it.

I just purchased my first Supra, got a helluva deal too, and I am already growing tired of that damn P-85. I have a cheapie Gibraltar...

Re: DW, the Scientology of drum companies?

Good idea Joseph. Hopefully this doesn't get out of hand...

I'd compare Ludwig to Catholicism. Been around forever, slow to change and adapt to the times yet remains popular with many, many devout...

Re: Pearl Roadshow Jazz Kit

Frank, is that a wrap or paint? Reminds me of a minivan my parents had when I was a kit. The color was called "Champagne metallic".

Re: Pearl Roadshow Jazz Kit

Here is another one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sdkc_BPvOwM

That floor tom sounds great. I'm half tempted to get one and use it as a practice kit.

Re: Buddy Rich Ludwig Ad Photo 1959

Frank, if you look at any of the old drum ads they use the term "outfit" like we would use "kit" and "set" today. What also catches my eye from old ads is the term "dance" which refers to a much...

Re: Am I nitpicking?

So, if I may ask, what was the resolution Kelly?

First rate job on addressing his issue BTW. Some of these larger companies could stand to learn a lot from you and Yamaha. Superb customer service.

Re: Guru snare competition results!

How a best dressed category? Magenta would take first for that delightful sequin dress that she is ever so pulling off. Anyone else notice the dog walking around the back yard at 00:22?

Runner up...

Re: Am I nitpicking?

When I read the title of this thread I had already assumed that you were nitpicking.

Now for such a high end purchase I would say that you are perfectly justified in your outrage. Well, I'd be...

Re: Forum demographic

"Rattle a few cages" with regard to forum demographics or in the world of drums? Either way I am excited to see it, I like a good cage rattlin'/jimmie rustlin'.

Re: DW drums being "Overpriced"

What this thread needs is a little Sun Dog. I honestly do admire the pride that he has for his brand and the voracity with which he defends their name to strangers on the internet.

Re: Pearl Roadshow Jazz Kit

Frank, can I ask what your gigging situation is like? Gigging a lot these days? What kind of music do you play?

Honestly I had written these off as a cheap beginner's kit but the fact that use...

Re: Anyone ever paint a cowbell? or strip one?

I cut a stencil for mine and put a little logo on it with white spray paint.

I'm sure you could sand it down and do something a little more creative if you had the time.

Re: Antiquing / Distressing drums and hardware

Great tip! I did this with a new picture frame that was significantly discounted because it had a little ding. I sanded it to simulate normal wear it now it looks like an older worn frame. Much more...

Re: Antiquing / Distressing drums and hardware

I wasn't really sire about your plan till I saw that bass drum. I like it, worn but classy looking. Looking forward to see how this project turns out.

How do you plan to age the hardware? How...
