Re: Starting to rethink floor tom legs
Use plastic plugs that you can buy in an automotive shop. Thats what I used.
Use Rims mounts to support the toms and Tama makes an excellent low floor tom stand that will hold two floor toms.

Re: Felt sound control on bass drums . . .
It is still common in use as you see from the responses. Felt strip muffling remains one of the most effective ways to control ring on a bass drum. Four out of the five bass drums that I own...

Re: In defence of multiple toms.
I actually don't feel that comfortable when I play my 2 up and 2 down configured 6 piece kit.
Not as comfortable as I do when I play my 4 piece.
I kind of feel like this, I have these extra drums...

Re: In defence of multiple toms.
My 6 piece kit uses two toms to the left of the bass drum on a heavy stand and two suspended floor toms on a heavy stand.
It adds a about 50 LBS to my load. It takes more time to set up, tear down...

Re: In defence of multiple toms.
I have a 6 piece kit and I most often choose not to use it for gigs.
I see no point in hauling all of that extra gear for no real reason.
I watched your video and I didn't see anything that you did...

Re: Isolation mount for snare?
Totally agree, I can't even stand isolation mounts on toms because I hate it when drums move excessively when I attack them. The last thing that I want is my snare bouncing all over the place :)...

Re: My Sonor Safari kit, any recommendations?
The SKI is an excellent bass drum head. It wasn't available in 16" At the time that I bought heads for my Safari. If it was, I missed it. I use an SKI on my vintage 68 Ludwig 20" bass drum and I...

Re: My Sonor Safari kit, any recommendations?
One of the reasons why I use a PS3 on my 16" Safari bass is because Remo makes a bass drum version of that head.
16" bass drums have become more popular recently so Im sure that more manufacturers...

If you strip the hardware and sand the drums yourself you will save. A lacquer sparkle finish would be much better than a wrap. You get what you pay for.
