Re: Ludwig standards

I had that same kit in the 80's, only with a single rack tom. I don't think I realized it was that old back when I had it. Yours is probably the same color, but mine was sort of an aqua green. I...

Re: Should I complete this stave shell?

I'll probably be crucified for this, but my plan on that was actually to do a wrap with plain mill finish aluminum. This particular drum is kind of an experiment and I'm not really looking for...

Re: Should I complete this stave shell?

Funny you should mention that, as it actually started life as a 20-segment shell. I was having some tooling issues and wasn't happy with the joints, but it was already the right size, so I changed...

Re: Wax?

Same with me. I heard about and did that on my Gretsch kit about thirty years ago. Not sure I'd have noticed an improvement, but I guess it didn't hurt anything.

Take Care

PS- On a side note-...

Re: The drum shop no more...

Oddly, one of my favorite guys to deal with on drums was a man named Dick Bardt at Washington Music Center in Bethesda, which was absolutely massive back before the chain store/internet takeover. He...

Re: Should I complete this stave shell?

Well I put a support ticket in to Remo on that issue out of curiosity and got a reply. I don't guess there'd be any reason it was confidential.

It still seems like non-standard bevels end up...

Re: The drum shop no more...

I don't get it either. I'm guessing it's the difference in dealing with people who are in it strictly for business and can't remember or relate to the enthusiasm and interest in the instruments that...

Re: The drum shop no more...

We had a really weird one here in VA when I was growing up that was downtown in what was sort of a sleazy pawn shop district. It was a mid-sized family run place, which was notoriously unfriendly,...

Re: Recording my drumming

I know this is old, but I don't see it mentioned already- Those Pyle things the OP was considering will surprise the hell out of you. They're similar enough in tone, but the clarity and sound quality...

Re: Should I complete this stave shell?

Yeah, I thought about taking it down to a 13" snare, but I wouldn't want a tom unless I was willing to build a full kit (not really equipped to do that). I think I might do as Morrisman suggests and...

Re: Should I complete this stave shell?

Thanks keep it simple!

To be clear, the shell actually is perfectly round, it's just too small in diameter. It's not however a perfect cylinder, as the diameter of one side is about an eighth...

Should I complete this stave shell?

Hi,

I've got a couple stave shells I've been waiting to shave down and promised myself I'd set up a better method than my previous router table jig, so I built a simple lathe for it. The first...
