Re: Question for cruise ship drummers about practice on board

You mentioned asking the people in your band. Are you booked as a band or as a showband musician?

If you are booked as a band, your equipment will usually be in one of the lounges. The lounges...

Re: Question about early beginner progression.

I agree with the suggestions about drum lessons. You seem to be lacking direction, which is understandable since the instrument is new to you. It would only help to find a qualified professional to...

Re: Anyone going to PASIC?

I'm looking forward to seeing your clinic. Yes, hopefully we will get a chance to meet in person this week.

Sounds like a very good cause. I'll stop by the booth and say hello.

Anyone going to PASIC?

PASIC is next week in Indianapolis. Anyone attending? I'll be there!!!

While there are clinics on all kinds of percussion instruments, the drumset artists there will include:

Re: Do I Need A New Drum Teacher? Checks and balances?

Although my teaching studio is in Richmond, I do a lot of performing in Northern VA. I can possibly recommend a teacher or two in your area if you are interested (if so, PM me).

I would assume...

Re: Do I Need A New Drum Teacher? Checks and balances?

Where are you from? The UK has some standardized courses/benchmark tests, while the US and other areas do not.

Re: Vintage Slingerland set value

It is always a good idea to get your vintage gear appraised. Not only would you know the general price for resale, but you should also have documentation of the value of the set for your homeowner's...

Re: Beginner

I would be skeptical of such a low price too. The going rate in most areas is $25-30 per half hour. But check out the teacher's credentials. Maybe he/she is an accomplished performer but just...

Re: How to inspire a new student in 45 minutes

After all this discussion, will we ever find out how the lesson went?

Re: How to inspire a new student in 45 minutes

I see both sides of this discussion, however the language that we use may be a bit misleading. They may be synonyms, but (for the purpose of eduction) I think of inspiration and motivation as two...

Re: How to inspire a new student in 45 minutes

Not a dumb question at all!

I don't lay out the exact pages that I will be using for each week. I just use whichever book I have decided on in my curriculum. If I assign a student one page,...

Please note that the advice that I am about to give is not necessarily a criticism, but food for thought. You said you don't have any experience teaching and believe that the lesson on Wednesday is...

Re: Drum Lessons: Live or On-Line?

Re: Memorizing Marching Music

Record the rehearsals. It will not only help you to memorize your part - it will also help you see how your part fits in with the entire ensemble.

If the show was purchased, you may be able to...

Re: I highly recommend this book...and not only to jazz drummers

Sounds like a "must have". Is there an ISBN or publisher listed in the book? I'd really like to have some of the stores down here stock it.
