I think the basic theory is this:
A sharp edge means less of the head contacts the shell. With less contact comes more sustain / resonance. Rounder edges will produce a rounder & warmer sound that...

I've had had that issue. One way to resolve it is to mount the offending drum with the mount's L-rod coming down through the top instead of up from underneath.
Don't know how your toms are mounted...

Does the wood grain inside the shells run horizontally or vertically? I have 3003s & they have the classic Sonor vertical grain. I looked at 3005s & saw they had horizontal grain. Just...

I have a friend with a Pearl Ultracast. It sounds absolutely fabulous. I have a 6.5" blacrolite myself & like it, but that Pearl just KILLS.

My bass drums seem to have more low-end when tuned higher than you'd expect. I'd try winding the 24 up a bit - both reso & batter.
