Re: Looking for solid value kit on a $1500-$1700 budget.

Used drums and cymbals can be found for a bargain. That's the smart way to build your kit!

Re: Practice routine while on vacation?

Practice your rudiments; you just need sticks and a magazine (no need for a practice pad if you want to travel light). There are lots of rudiments on line.

Or, brushes and a piece of cardboard.

Re: How do you save up for gear purchases?

Budget and save; never on layaway. Be patient and have a long term view of what you want/need.

Re: What's the better option: new or used drum kit?

Going used can definitely save you money. However, you need to buy from a reputable dealer. I bought a used kit from Steve Maxwell and saved a bit of money. Steve often has kits in your price...

Re: Steve Maxwell's Rules!

I've purchased many drums, cymbals and accessories from Steve over the years. I am a repeat and happy customer. If Steve is good enough for Charlie, he's good enough for me.

Re: Does anyone else hate splash cymbals?

I have 4 splash cymbals including a 10" china. They add texture. It is similar to comparing an organ to a synthesize; you add more choice to your palette.

Re: Which Blues drum set for an advanced beginner?

Nothing wrong with used cymbals if you purchase from a reputable dealer. Check out used Zildjian K or Spizzichino cymbals. These are top quality and command high prices.

I would recommend getting...

Re: Can memory locks be sexy?

Some of the nicest ones I have seen; congratulations.

However, I wish my USA Customs came without memory locks. I just might be in the minority of drummers who just don't get it.

But yours do...

Re: The big debate: tribute bands - yay or nay!?

Generally not; however, I saw the Grandmothers and they blew me away. These guys are in their 60's and 70's and delivered that Zappa sound with panache.

Re: Just a G.A.S. observation

I've noticed that some hide behind the term of "collector" to purchase gear they might not be able to afford (e.g. use layaway, credit cards, etc.).

It is a well studied problem (e.g. psychology...
