Re: The thread derail thread
When I was a kid, it was decided by the then President all schools would teach the metric system so the USA could convert to join the rest of the world.
But in all business and every day use, no...

Re: SERIOUSLY, though ...
26 posts in and no one's mentioned Carl Palmer?
Interesting.
I think he made the whole "drummer takes shirt off" a cliche.

Re: Why I don't play V-Drums
^ This.
So, you didn't like the cover band or the way the guy was playing, so instead, let's bash the equipment..
Had he been playing a Pearl Export from the 80's with 10 year old pinstripeds...

Re: nice Charlie Watts video
I've always thought the most interesting thing about Charlie is his use of a China as his main crash.
Interest that he admits he breaks them all the time.
Next time someone says real drummers...

Re: LA area.. What's up??
When I lived in an apartment, I always had a rehearsals studio somewhere.
There are lockouts here and there. As mentioned there is a big place downtown Los Angeles, but that is pretty far from...

Re: Music you don't listen to anymore...
Almost nothing falls under "don't listen to anymore".
Yes, certain bands/albums may get regulated to "rarely listen to".
Some bands that I used to consider my top 5 or top 10 favorites have...

Re: Thoughts on YouTube Covers?
This. The Youtube cover thing has been done to death.
There are so many better things I think a drummer could be doing with their time over making the one billionth drum cover to be on youtube. ...

Re: Tama snare drum, Artstar or Artstar 2?
Off the top of my head, I'm not sure.
On the Tama website, they have every catalog they have ever put on out on line (look for the "history" link).
The drum looks very early 90's so I'd dig...

Re: What do you want your guitar player to know?
Agree on tempo and groove.
I'd also say understanding basic rhythm on how many bars are in a phrase, and how many quarter notes are in a bar and such. I've played with a lot of amazing guitar...

Re: Does your family understand?
My mom was very supportive and not all at the same time.
She signed me up for drum lessons. She bought me my first drum kit. She paid for me to go to P.I.T. So, in many ways, I was very lucky.

Re: Peavey Radial Pro 750 - Value?
That's a tough one.
Not many were sold, so the used market is limited, so there is little precedent to go off of.
Some people LOVE those drums and think they're valued at top dollar.
Other's...

Re: Playing music no one else wants to.
Yes.
I finally formed a band around a concept I had of different influences not too many other people like. Did an album. Did a show. OK, got that out.
Then when my bandmates from that band...

Re: The death of retail music stores
Not true.
Stores have always had to buy the gear first. Retail stores are usually given terms (usually 30 days) before they have to pay for it, to give the stores a chance to sell said item...

My first real job was working in a drum shop, so it's a place dear to my heart. But yes, very few exist anymore. It's certainly weird living in one of the music capitols of the world and not having...

Re: Drums and American taxes
Per the letter of the law, if your stage clothing can be worn off stage, it is not a deduction.
Even if said outfit is nothing you would WANT to wear off stage.
It is a bit of a grey area, in...

The only difference in hobby income is you can't declare a loss. You can declare your deductions equal your income giving you a net zero taxable profit, but you...

I agree it is not professional and it is never anything I would do.
But to play devil's advocate for a second:
Imagine you grew up idolizing Peart, Bozzio and such. But you never could find...
