Re: I know - this is a real first world problem.

I will continue to be devil's advocate here.
I had a Ludwig Club date kit for a while, sold/traded them for other things
- but -
Bo, I can really see you behind those.
They are a wrapped kit...

Re: I know - this is a real first world problem.

Kinda half serious - just being a little evil :)

I have many kits available for local gigs as well - and I have to admit, I do often struggle deciding what to gig with. Sometimes it comes down to...

Re: I know - this is a real first world problem.

The answer is so obvious. You need a third kit.

It's simply not civilized to not have a third kit.

:)

Oh and the third kit needs to have a 20" kick.

I dare say you might hold onto these...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Oh yes, it's that cinnamon/auburn/tan/brown that I so love.
I wonder if ultraviolet light would produce the same accelerated aging as sunlight.

Re: Yamaha Drums

Question about Yamaha's Vintage Natural finish :

This has been discussed here and there, but wanted to ask owners or people with a long term relationship with this finish - has your Vintage...

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta back with Yamaha?

I knew it! Back to where he started. Good move for him, Yamaha are everywhere and I'm sure they can do anything he needs.

Hard to tell what's going on there with the Hipgig kit.

Re: Who does this, really?

Haha! Me too; more so to protect my vehicle from the drums.

Re: Who does this, really?

I have to weigh in on this. Not to argue, just a differing point of view.

Regardless of the cost or long term purpose of the drums, it's in my DNA to take care of things. I actually like bags and...

Re: When did Yamaha stop inside-coating the BCA shells ?

Yes, this seems to be confirmed - there is a 6 piece Maple Custom Absolute, first gen. kit on eBay right now, and the last picture shows a tom interior - and it is cherry stain.
Also confirmed that...

Re: AK Snare Drums?

Well, almost. The single flange rims that Drum Foundry sells come in black, chrome or brass finishes, but are all made of steel.
They look great, but don't sound much different than a standard 1.6...

Re: Maple custom absolute! wow!

Absolutely! - (pun intended) throw a Shure Beta 52 in that bass drum and as long as the PA has subs...no problem. I play many styles with an 18. Acoustic rock, pop, jazz, reggae , etc

The other...

Re: Maple custom absolute! wow!

Considering where you are, and what the drums are and their condition - yeah, no brainer.
Put a PS3 head on there, don't put anything else in the bass drum. You'll be surprised what you can do with...

Re: When did Yamaha stop inside-coating the BCA shells ?

Also wanted to point out that Maple Absolutes never had finished interiors, - except the Vintage finish has the same hand applied stain on the inside of the shells I do believe.

Re: When did Yamaha stop inside-coating the BCA shells ?

I believe they stopped coating the inside of the shells when they switched from the the 'first generation' of Birch Absolutes to the second.
First gen have gold , glued on badges with 2.3mm triple...

Re: Maple custom absolute! wow!

You could add ft leg brackets and make the 14 x 12 a real floor tom.
$800 with bags is a good deal for an MCA Bop kit in Vintage Natural finish…with bags.
I'd do that.

Re: Yamaha Drums

Finally picked up the Cherry BCA's. Polished them up a bit, put die cast hoops on the snare (zinc, not aluminum). They sound great, power toms or not.
The bass drum is pure perfection. Evans EMAD...

Re: Craviotto, C&C, Brady, Gretsch, Other?

Sadly, this is the norm these days.
Often, they only use 1/10th of the equipment's capability - or worse, don't really know how to use it in the first place.

Re: Craviotto, C&C, Brady, Gretsch, Other?

While I agree with the general consensus that a Craviotto kit is just irresponsible for a church to delve into - remember that the instruments are just the tip of this iceberg.
It would not be...

Re: DW Performace or C&C

+1 for George Way drums. The demos I've heard sound great and they are priced sensibly.
Both DW and C&C are very nice too - but I find C&C drums a bit too far in the 'vintage vibe' direction for...
