Re: when playing high temo jazz?

The pattern should be flat like a lot of people said but it should also be like a conversation, mix it up a lot and make it very spontaneous. Tony's ride patterns at the up tempo is probably a...

Re: 10 or 12 inch rack tom for jazz?

If you're going with only one rack tom, I would go with the 10 and tune it to a good medium-higher end pitch. Get a good interval going between your rack and floor tom, usually a major 3rd but just...

Re: Drum Shops?

There's a Five Star drum shop about 20-30 minutes from my house and it's a really great shop. The people there are very cool and knowledgeable and aren't just your typical salespeople. They buy and...

Re: Keith Jarrett Banned from Umbria

Part of me thinks that he knows all too well how talented he is and thinks he can pull those kinds of things off and not have any repercussions. I can't stress enough how much I enjoy his music but...

Re: THE "BIG" JAZZ THREAD

You're right about the Jasmine, to add this perfume they called it jassing it up. That scent was popular in the red light district or the "bad areas" I guess you could say and the working girls would...

Re: Did Buddy ever personally take on any students?

Buddy gave Johnny Carson one of his kits but I don't really know if he ever taught him how to play. I know Johnny was a very shy person away from his show but he was never shy when playing drums....

From the small clip of Jojo's dvd it seems like it will help a lot mainly for the breakdown and slow motion.

Re: Lessons keep having or ditch them

Is the teaching teaching out of the book directly or is he incorporating it in his lessons? 25 bucks for a lesson sounds like a great price but only if he's a good teacher; sometimes price doesn't...

Re: Blisters.

I could have sworn there was a few threads on the subject already but if you must know, blisters should never occur! No matter how "hard" you're playing you should never actually get to the point of...

I know for a fact that you're a big fan of Sonor. That kit is really nice and would be great for gigs. Go for it, man.

Re: Greetings from JOJO MAYER: Video - Fine Brushwork

I just noticed he stopped using the jazz brush. Is that the Gadd Signature or the Heritage brush? I can't really tell.

Re: Greetings from JOJO MAYER: Video - Fine Brushwork

I want to be him...seriously, he's awesome in so many ways. Think about that feel and the amount of technique he has and not to mention the high amount of endurance. He's simply the best.

Re: SONOR

The Force Series is a great semi-pro level kit. I would look into that because you can get a great deal for a low price.
